You are correct - problem was the claims line did not open until 8am The breakdown service number 24 hours supplied by the insurance company cannot move a vehicle without authorisation from the insurers Catch 22 Police wanted it shifted and towed away - as soon as the fire engines left at 5.20am So - I tried the AA - I have Home - Home Start - Relay - Relay Plus Thats why I tried the friendly JUST ASK people the AA Captain

I work for an AA/RAC rescue contractor, so can shed some light on this. (this is why i'm up at 7am on a Sunday!) Normal breakdown cover only covers you for mechanical failures. RTA's or stolen/vandalised vehicles are no longer covered by the 'Clubs', as they used to, to save them time and money recovering the recovery costs from the relavent insurance company. However, if the Police want something moved asap, then they will have their own recovery contractors who will store the car and bill your insurance company.

Simon is right, i work for a salvage company and it sounds like the police are to blame here, if they want it moved they should of arranged it , sounds like they wanted to rush off cause getting close to end of shift or the kettle was on. Hope you do get a explaintion from AA it not good enough quick enough to get our money every year Lee
