I have 100mbs of webspace that used to hold a forum and download area for an online gaming clan I ran.
It now does absolutely zero..... and I'm still paying for it as it's part of my ISP package that I can't get out of.
I want to put it to use and had a thought that I could put a "live" chatroom on there totally dedicated to the Scorpio.
It could be moderated by anyone who wanted to volunteer and there could be many rooms for various chat...
Obviously I wouldn't be there every minute of the day but I could find chat software that protected against most objectional stuff and volunteers could keep out the riff-raff.
Anyone in the Admin have any objections to this? I don't want to do anything that ruffles any feathers anywhere.
Also I would need volunteers to man the phones so to speak.... usually someone "mans" a room all the time but we may not be able to achieve this.
Any ideas or comments are welcome.. this is just an idea at this time....

I am putting together a bit of a chat room now.
It needs users to register and then I can go in as admin and change their accounts to moderators.
Just a freebie chatroom for the moment, there is a much better one for $69 but I would need to see if there was enough interest before buying it.
I'll post a link to the chat a bit later when I am sure it all works.

p.s. I know that this forum used to have a chat facility that was never used but as with all YaBB board add ons the chat room attached to these boards was enormously problematical.
My idea for a chat area is so that if sometimes you are having a bit of a convo with someone on the board being able to drop to a full featured chat room to get more in depth would be useful.

The old chat room was used by a few, for a while. But then 1 person got stuck in there!
But anyway, it sounds like a good idea to me. There's a lot of posts on here going back a forth between some people which could work better in "chat".
I'm on here every day at some stage or other and would also be willing to help. But there's a snag... I have no experience of moderating and computer-tech stuff is not my game

yeah there's a slight problem in that it kicks people out for no reason occasionally. There is a wonderful help forum for this chat room though, so I'll post on there and get the probs ironed out.
The clicking is your browser settings I think.. there is a way to stop useing sounds on browser refresh (the click you hear when new pages load) I'll look it up and post here with the solution.

Lee, I think I have found out how to stop the browser clicking when it refreshes..
Click the START button on your taskbar.
Go to "Settings" and select "Control Panel"
Double Click the "Sounds" icon in Control Panel
In the "Events" box at the top, scroll down to Windows Explorer
Select "Start Navigation"
In the Sound area, there is a drop-down box below Name:
Click the drop-down, go to the top of the list and select [None]
Click "OK". Close Control Panel.
This is supposed to do it, give it a try.
Still working on the kick out problem, I have set the chat to run totally in it's server push mode as advised and run it entirely in a safe mode but it still does it.
The jury's still out

When you fire up "Control Panel" select "Switch to Classic View" (upper left region of the window). You'll find that George's description is spot on then.

Yeah that's right, I forget sometimes that I use the classic mode in XP rather than the tellytubbie backdrop and big green buttons.
I've had a reply from the chat board and I have adjusted what they said to do, if it still continues to kick people then it may be because my ISP is running a "process block script" If this is the case then I can only ask then if it can be removed or negated.
If some one (or two) can drop into the chat occasionally and see if it works then post in here the result.
I may not be in here for the rest of the day as we are considering taking the Scorp down to Marsden for a stroll along the seafront to blow out the cobwebs then back to the in-laws for tea.
