when my gearbox overheated the od off light flashed but since then i have had the gearbox oil and filter changed. but on the way back from tescos (10 mile round trip) it started flashing again, i pulled over and turned engine off then waited 10 mins before continuing and it was ok. does this mean my gearbox has had it? there was no burning smell or smoke like the time when it overheated. does anyone know about these problems and am i looking at a new box?  Huh Huh

you will probably find the O/D light comes on next morning when the box has cooled down, or if the weather turns really cold it can come on after a short break.

when the O/D light does come on, you will probably find you have no 4th gear as well. Pulling over and switching off and then back on will distinguish the O/D light for that journey and probably the rest of the day.

Plug in a OBD 11 lead and you will probably find fault codes
P0734 Gear 4 Incorrect Ratio and
P0763 Shift Solenoid C Electrical

some owners have successfully renewed the soleniods for about £100 as they are external. But...the bands may have overheated and prematurely worn.

Personally, live with it as the damage is already done ie overheated. When the box finally gives up, you are looking at about £700 to £1000 for a reconner....

Around town you will not notice the lack of 4 th gear but on the motorway it will be revving ie roughly 3000 revs at 60mph etc.

hope this helps
