Following the sites clean sweep of the trouble caused by some trade dealers we would welcome your thoughts on how to take this issue forward.

Please can you let me know either privately or on this list the traders who you thought caused aggravation and were blatantly spamming, didnt deliver promised parts etc, and those that seemed to be doing a good service.

It may be that we can create a vetted forum for the good guys where they will be asked to supply to us their trading details, name and address etc and be closely monitored.

I welcome your comments.

i for one dont want to cause any offence to anyone, but i would just like to say that any body who can supply (and deliver) the parts what we are asking for must be an added bonus, some members are crying out for certain parts, and are really struggling to find them.....
now if a dealer/breaker who is a member (ok,may have joined because of the love of the scorpio,or may have joined solely to make a profit) has the parts required, would that not be so bad ?......
obviously we have to try to sort the wheat from the chaff so to speak, and the said dealers/breakers must not be allowed to flaunt there services to a degree, but for what it's worth heres my opinion.......
any body who wants a part and advertises in the wanted section should be allowed to be contacted by a breaker if the breaker can help (IE)..
yes i have the "door" you are looking for, please give me a ring on...................

as to advertising in the "for sale" section, maybe parts only ?,or i am breaking this model.....
again they muat not be allowed to "flood" the site, but lets say someone like madmadscorpioman,or dare i say cosworth parts who have a good and regular supply of parts for these cars,in my humble opinion would be a good thing........
this is only my personal opinion, and in no way is meant to stir up or cause any arguements what-so-ever......

no thats fine craig, i simply did not have the time to trawl through all the for sale section to find out who was causing all the trouble. I therefore opted for a clean sweep approach relying on members being able to tell me who were the trouble makers and who they would like to be allowed back on.

Pete,

I think allot of members are still in the dark to exactly what went on this week. I myself found that the availability of parts from the "for sale" section was rather handy to say the least, but also I found the spaming a little much!
I feel it a little unrealistic to think our own community will come up with the endless list of parts needed to keep our cars on the road and we will have to do business with "the trade" somewhere along the way. It was the ease of finding parts that benefited members the most IMO.
Obvious spammers should not be allowed, nor discourtesy, I agree but can we not let the few ruin it for the majority?

i agree with what you have done, obviously the time involved in as you say trawling through the ads would have been too time consumming (and BTW do genuinely hope you are feeling better now),again personally i think the only way is to trust people from the off-set,and as long as evryone now know's (and adhere's to) to the site rules, hopefully this can work.......
again feedback from members who have been helped by these people must be forth coming, and any disputes, bad service/fraud ETC.ETC. must not be tolerated, and again,as long as the "sellers" abide by this, hopefully all should work fine.........
see what the others think, and then take it from there....

good luck with it all pete..

Pete,

My main gripe was when one of the traders started jumping into the problem section picking up old posts and sticking in a "I have got one of these gives us a ring on*************"

In fact I posted to that effect and said person stopped for a while but then came back in spades.

http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.pl?board=Problems;action= display;num=1100534630;start=6#6

I guess if traders/breakers were allowed to post in the Parts for Sale and to respond to Parts Wanted that would not be so bad.

That does not mean that they should blocked from contributing to other sections if they have a problem, or solution, a useful bit of advice or just want to shoot the breeze, short of "I'll sell you one." I guess its about being good members of our community.

For my part, I have bought parts from both FordParts UK and Jack Hope by following links from this site. Both have been very satisfactory and have handled things well, Jack via his eBay shop and Ford Parts UK through their web site.

In both cases the actual items that I wanted were back ordered or "no longer available" from my Ford Dealer.

Hopefully we can have a situation where the traders get good business and we get good parts availability when we need it.

I know I will be buying more bits as time goes on.

Thanks

Geoff

morning all, this is just a thought, and dont wish to cause upset or work for anyone. but could a section be set up for traders to advertise at say a cost of £5 a year this will help all members looking for parts and aid in the cost of running the site and the traders/breakers will have their own place to list parts for sale and email addresses so deals can be done off site. sorry if i have upset anyone just an idea roy

here goes this might upset some people but not ment to .Do we need a part For Sale bit ? if we only had a wanted part section the member could list the part on there and then people could get in contact offering that part no more spamming and flooding the site with S**t like you have had in the past. hope this helps

Spamming boards - BAD
Spamming PMs - VERY BAD

However, if someone in Problems were to say looks like my XXX is dead I have no problem with someone saying they have one for sale.

I like Lee's idea about no sale section.  If you need something, post in needed and let the 'dealers' do the running. We'd soon find the helpful ones then.

I was in the trade for many years and realise everyone has to make a living but not at the expense of p#ssing people off. This was a very helpful FRIENDLY place and i'd love to see it get back to that.

Congrats to the admins for stamping on this early, you deserve every support not more agro.

I agree with all that has been said so far, and have discussed my veiws with Pete off line!

I think lees idea is fine, but we might miss out on things such as "I have a 7000 radio if you want to upgrade" or "Anyone for an Air Con Mod" so some sort of section where this could happen would be good!?

Maybe we can have an area that is for sponsored traders, using gibbo's idea of paying, but has to be verified by a member with say 10+ decent posts (I have seen this type of thing on other forums!)

That may stop the spaming!

There are members we all know who are Scorpio owners and are in the trade or dismantle Scorpios in their garden (not to mention names Lips Sealed) who do us a great favour by posting advise - we would not want to lose them would we? Undecided

I think things were fine other than too many ott sales posts.. especially responding with a number with no price!!

My idea would to make them site sponsors (like other growing boards) in that they pay for the privalige as suggested and have a banner that links us chaps that want to click to their site where they can their list items forsale and what they got as much as they want etc..

I wouldn't have said that there was trouble in the original post though.. just opinions.

My feelings reiterate exactly what Craig said so I won't go over that again.

I use this Yabb board and have Gold SP1.4 running with the chat mod, the poll mod and many others which give more functionality. My board is quiet now as the game it supported has moved into the past but I learnt a lot about how to keep the membership happy during the 2 or 3 years I ran it.

An idea... set a sticky post on the top of the news forum stating the rules for traders.. ie they are welcome as long as they disclose to the membership their trader status and agree not to spam the forums with many many posts or mass PM the members. Make them aware that if they step out of line they will be banned from the forum... etc and use the News ticker to insist that new members read these rules.

In the admin settings make sure that "show and require agreement letter" is ticked and that it has been amended to show these rules as above.

Moderate the forum fully, by that I mean try to make sure that for most of every 24 hours a moderator is present on the forum. I know that constraints of time make it difficult to admin a forum but the Moderator facility could be used in the admin settings to give "trusted, long term" members moderator status. This idea is used on many forums and I used it on mine as I could not "police" it all the time, the Moderators have a set of "rules" that they apply to any posts they see and they have amend or delete priviliges.

Also increase the "minimum time between 2 postings from 1 IP" setting to maybe 20mins to curb the ability for people to spam. I know this mean that conversations slow down but it can help to stop mass postings.

Possibly add an additional member group called "Trader" and put obvious or admitted traders into this group so that their status is instantly visible to all.

Maybe get the poll mod to use to ask members their opinions on subjects which a multi choice answer would suffice and the percentages in agreement are there for all to see without long drawn out conversations   Grin (like this one of mine)  Wink

Oh and I always made sure that "disable all guest posting" and "disallow guests from doing anything but login or register" were ticked.

Just a few ideas into the melting pot.

i must agree with gibbio why not have a trade section that they have to pay to advertise on to help with the cost of running the site.

Agree with most contributions so far.

Can't say that I found it at all helpful to have "I've got one, ring me on ..." appearing in lots of problems/advice posts. I'm sure sometimes the problem hadn't been fully diagnosed and, as we all know, if we thought the way to solve a problem was just to change parts at random then we'd all still be going to our main dealers!

Once there's a consensus as to what's most likely has failed etc. I'd prefer to leave it up to the member concerned to post in items wanted. Let's keep problems/advice and buying/selling separate - it's neater that way IMO.

I too have had stuff from Jack (madmadscorpioman) and found him very helpful. Isn't that just a case for a link to his eBay shop in the relevant section of the main site, rather than changing what goes on here too much?

Cheers,
Dave
