"Honest John" snippet

Just out of interest; I saw this in Saturday's Daily Telegraph "Honest John" advice page, entitled:

"In cod we trust"    Undecided

(Q.) I am considering buying a 1998 2.3 Ford Granada (sic) Scorpio estate, with all extras plus leather interior. It has done 125,000 miles and the asking price is £1,750. The MOT runs until October, although the road tax expires in May. Is this a reasonable buy? I have always liked the Granada range.

(A.) That's a fair deal. It's a chain-cam engine, so make sure the oil is clean. Check the auto gearbox thoroughly, too. The popularity of these fish-faced cars is presently rising fast.

Grin That's nice ! (I think). A variant to the Clarkson 'frog' theme...actually it looks to me as if the styling from other makes has just caught up... Smiley

Hmmm, Frog eyed or fish faced Undecided

Not sure I like either Embarassed

His answer sounds "honest" enough though. And you're right, the others are just catching up Tongue

Cry Sorry, there was no picture. Most of Honest John's questions/answers are text only, or else with just 'generic' pictures.

Captain

You can see the article yourself by going to the Daily Telegraph Website: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/motoring then click on honestjohn and it brings up the detail. It's the answers posted on the 12/03/2005 that the question about the scorp is in about two thirds of the way down entitled "In Cod we trust!"

I find honestjohn an enjoyable read and also visit his website for car reviews and news especially about auctions. There is a link to his website from the telegraph section or just type in honestjohn.co.uk. and off you go.

interesting point re "increasing in popularity".

Its very true of course that the Scorp styling was way ahead of its time. just look at the new mercs, mini etc and see that they are slowly catching up.

This one on E*&y looks well ahead of time,

Description
"The exterior of this Scorpio is in showroom condition and looks brilliant with the full body kit as standard for the Ultima model including front spots, zenon front headlights, small rear spoiler, side skirts and Ford 16 inch spoke alloy wheels with recent brand new tyres all round!! "

Zenon headlamps, mmmm not sure

Body kit, skirts and rear spoiler---my god i have gone blind, all i can see it the standard car.

Still looks a tidy bus though
