hi garyuk and welcome £5 of petrol is just over a gallon (i think, don't use much of it), so 23mpg is about right. you need to fill it up and get a proper reading. xx amount of miles for xx litres. lets see how you get on with that first before spending any money on other things. we also need..... tyre size/pressures auto/manual a/c on or off model..ultima, ghia etc. hth http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/consumption.htm

hi there first off, tyre pressures. i go for 31f and 28r. http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/handbook146.gif round about town i get 18-19mpg @ 21mph. on a run about 29mpg (best) @ 70mph. check everything. brakes, wheel bearings etc. have you had it serviced lately? how's the sparkplugs, etc? give it a good look over and do the fill up and we'll see how it goes.

Have you done a system check on the dash to see if the system is working correctly.. l Switch on the ignition. l Hold the tripmeter reset button down for at least six seconds. l When all the symbols in the tachometer and speedometer display are visible, the self-test has been activated. Switch off the ignition, switch it on again and observe the fuel gauge. then switch off and on again have read of this it might help http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/instreset.htm

Do you get full scale reading when you switch back on after the reset?

Sorry to hijack this one but i have had a fuel gauge that has played up for miles! Sometimes shows an accurate reading, other times just falls to the bottom (like it's been turned off) and other times inventing its own level. It's been entertaining! I've checked it now whilst in one of it's turned off moments and got a short circuit reading. Minutes later it was reading right and showed a correct litre reading. I assume this must be a faulty sender unit?? Any ideas.......? Stu.
