Hi Chaps..

New member here, just picked up my first..!  Cosworth Estate 1996 60K. Smiley Smiley Smiley

Hasn't been the best kept car in the world. Sad Sad Sad

Needs a few things for it, key fob, battery cover, a bit of body work sorting, footwell carpets, and minor others..!

I'll address these in coming posts.

I already have the 2.9i Cologne engine in one of my other cars... TVR S series.. 1993 K plate..  - The Cosworth engine fits almost straight in  - so in a few years Maybe.. Grin

Ther is an initial problem though...!

The Steering wheel airbag cover or horn cover - Whatever you will call it - is loose..!

I think the wheel has been off in recent times and not replaced properly or has been bodged...

The Cruise button controls are a bit hit and miss.. Could it be because of this..?

I feel there is 4 screw holes from the rear of the wheel..

Do these tighten the cover..?

I'm used to motoring forums and all that they offer....

SO

Thanks for your replies and welcome etc...

Cheers

Hello there and  welcome  Grin

Never had the wheel off myself but im sure you need to disconnect the battery for a while before playing with the airbags Wink

No doubt someone will be along soon with the correct info Smiley

The Horn/Airbag is held on by two screws.Torx I think. To access them you need to have the wheel turned through 90degrees. Raise the car or put the front wheels on wet grass or newspaper so that you are not straining the power steering. Once the steering wheel is turned you will be able to access the screws which otherwise are obstructed by the steering column shroud. Tightening them should secure the unit.

Dave,

the airbag is held on from the rear of the wheel by two torx headed screws (Torx 30 I think or it could be torx 25!!) They are at 3 oclock and nine oclock position as you look at the wheel. I find that it is easier to use proper torx drivers rather than a socket head as they are too big to fit the holes.

If you need to take the wheel off, disconnect the battery and leave the car for 20 minutes or so (go and have a brew!) before you take the airbag off.

When reconnecting the battery later, don't forget to connect the small black lead back as this often gets missed off and is a common cause of a fault. The engine will crank but won't fire at all.

Cheers chaps..

Already in contact with an E bay seller (ref Battery cover)..!

The wheel cover feels like the top right portion only is loose...(rattling when driving)  Having the screws at 3 & 9 o'clock doesn't sound like tightening them is the solution.. I'll have a gander tomorrow.

The Ebay guy has a whole wheel for sale... Is it worth getting that..?

I knew you'd come up trumps with the advice.  Just like the boys on 'PH'

Welcome to the Forum, Dave.

You're on PH as well? On the TVR board, I expect.

Yes, I was helping a couple of guys use a 24V Cosworth last year, and one was actually a TVR IIRC.  You can use the original EECV engine management, as long as you're careful to keep the PATS module and the ignition transponder connected, and leave the TRS in 'P' connected to the loom.  Or, you can use your own programmable injection  Wink

OOOps - shouldn't tell you that - you'll be ripping the engine out of the Scorpio  Shocked
