i guess several of you watched top gear last night, and it's now on for the next 5 weeks, dont know what they plan to do with that scorpio, but in the preview for this series i could clearly see 1 being driven by richard hammond.................... obviously something to ridicule the car i reckon, but i to watch i suspect......

Hmm... drove it into a sand dune or something didn't they Craig? Shame they're not going to realise they're mistakes and praise the car.

well amanda said it was a sand dune (i disagreed, but now know shes right again ),so will have to wait and see,but as for clarkson praising it up,i'll have a long wait i guess..... .... BTW tonight on 5th gear on channel 5 at 8 pm they are doing an item on different petrols (forecourt, supermarket, premium etc ),thought that may be of interest to some of you,i know in my opinion the "premium" petrols i believe are better...

Missed 5th Gear last night.....was there anything of substance in the petrol comparisons then?? I must admit, my 12v runs far better on Esso than any other, gets better mpg, smoother and more even idle...definitely poorer on petrol from the local Morrisons....

Petrol comparisons test was ok, they were checking BHP on three different types of cars, shopping, mediocre hot hatch and scooby, with three types of fuel, supermarket, optimax and ultimate. The optimax was top in all tests with ultimate second. Even more difference between supermarket petrol and the decent fuels on the one torque test they did. Made very little difference on the shopping car tho. I was a touch disappointed as they were all done one after the other (tank was drained though). I think the longer they had tested i.e a couple of weeks the more difference there would have been. One of the benefits of the better fuels is the clesning effect over time. On a personal note I've always thought optimax was the best of the lot and the tests showed that was the case especially in better cars, not economy minded cars. Cheers Paul

| The brands are shell (optimax), bp (ultimate) and just a supermarket, none in particular was mentioned. Paul

The octane ratings were also different: supermarket= 95; ultimate= 97 and optimax = 98. What they don't tell us is whether its the octane rating or the "little extras" BP & Shell put into their fuels that make the difference. I'm very happy using Sainsbury's 97 octane as its only a few pence more than 95 octane (and sometimes same price). Amended: BHP (torque, ft ib, in brackets) for a Subaru Imprezza was 235 (232) with 95, 248 (248 ) with ultimate and 249 (258 ) with optimax, compared with supermarket brand. They reckon you're car engine needs to be of a certain spec to appreciate the difference. Interestingly, they also said the ECU adapts to the octane rating. Paul

What a waste altogether I say. Did anyone else recognise it though? Looked famiiar to me. I'm sure it belonged to someone from this site. I went to look at the old MSN group photos thing to confirm my thoughts, but the link doesn't work any more. Liked the RS4 Audi though

Yep, the Recaro seats, wood/leather steering wheel and the peeling chrome 12-spoke alloys.
