Greetings to you all and Merry Christmas

Dear fellow scorpions (or whatever our collective noun is, I'm new so please forgive me if I'm wrong). I just thought I'd introduce myself and ask a few very basic questions, if I may. So hello everyone, I'm Paul, I'm new to the world of Scorpios and Ford in general (other than once owning a horrible little 1988 Escort that my wife used to practice in when she was learning) but I have just purchased at a garage in Canvey Island the rather less than princely sum of £2750 a 1998 Cosworth Ultima Estate. Please note I don't live in Canvey Island, that was as far as I had to go (from Wembley) to get one in half decent condition. And it is in decent condition - a silver one that has covered 100k and everything seems to be fine with it. On test drive I noticed that the ABS pump was blown (thanks to the helpful advice on this website) and insisted that the garage changed that before they sold it to me (whcih they did - and it now has a shiny new one - and yes, I did check they hand't just unplugged the bulbs). So first impressions of the car are as follows: 1) Goodness me but isn't it fast!? You wouldn't expect an automatic estate that weighs in at a million tonnes to beat my wife's nimble little Accord of the blocks - but it's way faster than that. I'm going to have to watch my license. 2) Goodness me but isn't it comfortable. Most comfortable car I've ever sat in. 3) For a standard fit stereo that sound is very good. Bit stupid putting the rear speakers under the load cover but that would be nit-picking. 4) Goodness me but isn't it FAST! Caught myself doing 55 through Harrow thinking I was doing 30, had to put the anchors down quite sharpish. Okay a few very basic questions, please forgive my newbie incompetence for asking them. 1) Where PHYSICALLY IN THE ENGINE BAY is this all important automatic gearbox dipstick? Owner's manual doesn't say and I can only see one thing that looks like a dipstick and I'm certain that's for engine oil. (I know I should have checked this before buying but as I couldn't find it I made the garage certify the transmission was okay and back it up with a proper warranty). 2) The ONLY problem with this car (incredible that this should be the case) is that the LED over the re-circ button is blown so I can't tell if I'm in re-circ or not other than if the windows mist up. Is there a quicker way find this out (eg does turning the system on and off re-set it to outside air?). Many thanks and Merry Christmas Paul

hi paul and welcome.. regarding the auto dipstick, basically its opposite the oil dipstick on the other side... and the bulb in the recirc button,if it is blown, you will need a whole new cc panel BUT are you sure it is blown, the recirc button will not light up if the air is directed at the windscreen,so try again with the air direction set at the floor for instance.... HTH
