linkage arm of front wipers

hi can anyone advise me ? the little 'top hat ' socket has gone on the wiper arm linkage .told that i have to replace it all the whole arm linkage. I was hoping that all you had to do was get a new socket ford want £85 + vat . tried scrap yard but no scorpios in yet any one help please cheers . sean Solihull . West Midlands

Year I now remember the carry on I had. After reading that. I was between Scotland and england on the A1. When it was 1am and pouring with rain. With another 80 miles to go sticking my head out of the side window doing 40mph.

my truck use's the same method for wiper linkage when mine went on the side of the motorway i put the silver foil from a packet of ciggies over the offending ball then pushed linkage back on it lasted the rest of the week till i got back to yard ps i put ciggies as it would not let me put f.a.g.s
