After 30 months of Scorpio Ultima I have bought an Explorer. Did a 200 mile trip, (A1, M11, M25) to bring it home and it was more economical than my 2.3 scorp - which was a nice suprise as I thought I'd have to resort to in flight refuelling having read all the reports! And guess what - the remote works!!! Will be sad to see the scorpio go but once we've put it back on it's original plates it will be on it's way, fsh mot and all. Thanks to you all for your help and support - brilliant forum, best on the net by far! All the best, Keith

A few days in with the explorer and quite a vehicle! Loved my 2.3 ultima (which is still parked outside whilst dvla sort out number plate change - anyone want a fsh 140k estate for 800??) and was concerned at how I'd react to an X in it's place. Have to say the all round visibilty is excellent, it's handling is 100% better than I expected, and now I am used to it's sheer size I am growing fonder of it day by day. Whilst it will never be a cossie it does have the power to really get along without concern, there's no small powerband like so many SUV diesels have, and it is ridiculously easy to unintentionally speed in. Consumption? Well it's been fine so far at over 20 but thats coming off the trip home so will see what it does once it's spent a week or so around town. Would heartily recommend one but do make sure the chains have been done otherwise its an 1100.00 job when they get rattly. Oh - and it came with 2 remotes and they both work!! It;s like Christmas day!!

| You want a really big SUV you want to import a Ford Excursion with the 7.2L V10 Triton Glad you like the Explorer. There are literally billions of those over here. Never saw all that many on UK roads when i was there. Nice to be a little bit different ey? Kind Regards Danny_R

i used to work for fulham football club and the manager chris coleman (cookie) was going through a stage of trying out cars, i was lucky enough to have a quick go of a couple; a beautiful lincoln navigator and a gorgeous caddy calvalcade (think thats what it was called). all the petrol heads at work were having fits about the lincoln, it had 22 or 24 inch chrome wheels with really wide low profiles on, the dealer was saying the tyres work out at 900 quid each as they have to be imported stateside. they were superb cars, massive, no door keys, they both used a security code, when you unlocked the lincoln the running boards electronically slid out from under the doors....

they used to annoy me baz, for all their money they had no imagination, most of em were being paid around 20 grand a week which didnt include bonuses, sponsorship deals etc, but none except the american goalie who now plays for reading, he scoured the country until he found the porsche he wanted, some special 80's model, would by a car that i'd consider worth cherishing. one would by an X5 with blacked out windows etc, so most of the others would. considering they all liked their cars no one had a corvette, aston martin, maseratti, e type, etc no collectors pieces at all......

Finally got the plate transfer sorted out and sold my scorpio for 950.00. It was bought by a couple who live round the corner so I'll see it most days, which I think is cruel!

Averaged 23mpg over the first month of V6 4 litre living with my Explorer. That's a real mix of town/motorway driving, at 85 it's only turning over at 2800rpm, and is really up for it and a whole lot more When the time comes to let the scorpio go don't dismiss the X. I never drove a cosworth, had the excellent 2.3, but the X is really quite exceptional. I got a 65k V reg Explorer for 2600, having sold my 140k P reg Scorp for 950, so looks like I've got a few good years of Ford eccentricity still ahead! Oh, and the remote STILL works EVERY time!!!
