As my car had full service history when i bought it i thought i would enquire at my local ford dealers to get a price for a 100,000 mile service, the price they gave me was 175 pounds for service plus 100 pounds for some part that has to be fitted to the drive train plus 80 pounds to fit it, total 355 pounds, so DIY it is then.

£175 to change the oil, filters etc & check the car over  Shocked......& £180 for some part they say needs replacing in the drive chain, even though they haven't actually seen the car yet  Huh

Keep well away from FMD if you have an old car. Only cars under warantee get the best service at FMD. They are really not interested in old cars that are out of warantee  Smiley

Keep reading the sections on the main site on how to service/repair the Scorpio. Any problems you get, just post them in the Forums  Smiley

Also it might be a good idea to get friendly with a good local garage/mechanic, as they are usually alot cheaper than FMD & alot more reliable  Smiley

Mine cost me £850 for the dealer to sort the brakes, hubs, suspension and a few other things just to get it through the MOT. But Scorpios weren't quite so cheap then and I got mine for a d**n good price. We'd just moved and I had so much work to do on the place, just didn't have the time to do it all myself so paying out just to get it on the road was the lesser of two evils Smiley

I use 5/40 fully synthetic in my cosworth. But you will need to change it again after approx 2000 miles as it will clean the engine. Halfords sometimes do a 1/3 off, or better, on their fully synthetic which is what I use.

As a competent home mechanic, I've never seen the point of dealer servicing. I think it mentions on here that a fully stamped service history is no guarantee that the work has been done. I have a friend who works in a major garage chain and their garage is an approved main dealer. The horror stories I hear from him would put you off for lifeShocked One example was the 3rd year apprentice who just gave the oil filter a wipe with a rag because it was difficult to get it off!!! The car still got it's service stamp though.......
If you can't do the work yourself, try and find a small independent garage who cares about keeping their customers.
As I'm never likely to own anything under 8 years old, the cost of keeping up a service history would soon outway the cost of the car, I just keep records of everything I do myself.

Cheers Jim

Back in the seventies when I worked for a VERY large (at the time) Opal dealer in Hull (Moores of Hull) as a DRIVER Labourer I became that involved with vehicle servicing (Plugs point oil and filters including cleaning brakes and checking etc etc) that I ended up buying a very expensive tool kit.  I was never trained but I used to carry out the work competently so the management were happy..... after a while I was moved to the bodyshop where I undertook complete strip and rebuilds of damaged cars to enable body repairs and painting etc, did some COMPLETE down to shell jobs on brand new cars to allow costomisation of company livery ie (Brinkmans, a dutch growers firm) I gained a lot of experience in the 2 years I was there.

That is why I would never pay for a service (Unless I could observe the work carried out....

Edit.... The tools got pinched out of my car when I was doing someone a favour.... Typical init... Undecided

I would write my car off rather than pay money to a garage Smiley

The closest mine gets to one is going to pick up an oil filter from the FMD Grin

Tend to agree but as it was MOT really have no choice and running the business leave very little time to do all the jobs that always need doing. Grin

Shocked hi I had one of those go on my mk1 granada years ago it was a 1973 car and it went in 1986 it perished and came apart it did no damage to the car but it sounds like a brick going around in a empty cement mixer really noisy when it happens, shortly after a oak tree fell on it in the 87 storm Cry, will check with my mot mate to see if it is included in the mot checks  Wink
