Finally got it !!!!

All this was in the dark, as thats when I get home... Couldnt get it day 1 as the battery was flat. Couldnt get it day 2 as I reaslised it was parked in such a way that out Rover couldnt get near enough to connect the jump leads and we couldnt push it as it was in soft mud with low pressure tyres and I couldnt see which terminal was which. Day 3, got the wife to tow drag the car forward with baling twine, used my mobile to see which terminals were what at jump started new beasty. Drove lovely, nice to be in a car driven from the proper end By the time I got the car home, the engine was surging as it was bone dry on fuel, and the last lurch saw me get onto our drive .... phew. I gave it a wash, paintwork still feels like sandpaper from months of dirt and tree sap, there were a couple of very minor scrapes and light spray touch ups I hadn't noticed. Interior is in a word filthy.....hard for us horsey types to keep a car clean, unless your rich enough to go full livery ( which we aren't ). I guess underneath is the same. Some interior bulbs are out, and the heater blower only seems to work on demist, but maybe it only comes on if its upto temperature? Its also got the wrong air filter in it (as there are gaps on 2 sides ). Haven't sussed out what works and what doesnt yet, other than it 'seemed' to drive fine, with no clonks, rattles, ginding, or groaning. Gotta get a handle on this battery discharging, as I can see that getting tedious VERY quickly. The paperwork seems to indicate temp sensor, climate panel and cruise control motor needed replacing , which was declined and at those parts prices I am not suprised. Now the battery cover is missing, so I'll see if its wet, or swimming in water, but if it is wet, is that it doomed. Wont drying it out work? Does what do you actually cleaned when you get the fusebox out, and how do you tell that there is a problem. As you can see I have no idea of what I'm looking for other than its wet Its tricky to work out how much money to put into the car, does anyone have any suggesions. Still love it though Ta for any input guys

Is this one you've just bought? If the fusebox if def wet inside it needs stripping down and dried out (not as hard as it sounds) or replacing. Battery drain could be a few things possibly your wet fusebox if thats whats wrong with it, or the alternator? have a look at the faultfinder to get started http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/faultfinds.htm

Yup it is the one I've just got. Its not had the best of luck, and I've only just got the interior cleaned up and I'm still getting mud off the exterior after 2 good washes. I know these cars are cheap, which is a shame, as they seem solidly built. The battery is on charge again, so I'll start the tests tomorrow. Other than skimped everything ( which I kinda expected ) in the engine bay there is an occasional clonck in the pully area (perhaps siezed a/c compressore?) and for the life of me I cannot unscrew the coolant reservoir cap, so its cross threaded or theres some special knack I dont know off, seeing as I didnt even get a manual. See ya later

Every page of the Owners Manual is on this site somewhere. As for the missing Battery Cover, as long as the plastic lid of the Fusebox is secured and the drain holes are clear then it's not that big a deal. ( Puts tin helmet on and retires to air raid shelter ) This is heresy to some members, but there has been a schism in the ranks of the faithful and we are unanimous in that a missing Battery Cover is not the harbinger of doom that we once thought.

| Doh Your right ! I've had dozens of cars and never had to do that. I should have thought of that as the power steering dipstick did require a tug. At least its all nice and clear in there, no impending HG problems.

| Well thats a relief, but I will still get one when I can! Until I find my fusebox has rotten, I'm kinda with you in the "not the harbinger of doom" camp. Ps Is there a possibility of just one pdf for people with broadband?

| Well it doesnt seem wet, and I seem dont have any 'odd' electical stuff going on. When I reconnect the battery and turn the ignition key on, the needles do flick right round, but only the first time. I did the voltage checks this moring, connected the battery and beasty still didn't turn, until I tightened the terminals real tight. As its had a full charge (well it did on Sunday), it does sound like the battery isn't upto the job, whatever else is wrong. At idle voltage was approx 12.8 to 14 At 3000 rpg voltage was approx 13 At 3000 rpg voltage with EVERYTHING was approx 13 So on the face of it that look ok. I'll get the battery to someplace that can do the dead short test this weekend.
