Steve Appleby and his family stage a sit-in protest against the clampers of his Scorpio.

Is this chap one of our members ?
His face seems familiar as I'm sure I have seen him at one of the meets.

depending on where that chain goes from the top it looks like you could nearly reverse out of that Wink

At the most a loosened track rod end or wishbone to remove it Wink

Shouldn't one keep the new ticket rather than putting on the outside?   You could always say, that the new ticket had dropped off.   A little thought may have helped.   Still, I hate clampers, and as a resourceful engineer, normally have a pair of 36 inch Record 'Bolt-croppers' in the Boot!   I can say I'm transferring them from one work-place to another!

I have to say that I am in favour of allowing clamping on private land. My business unit suffers from "school run syndrome" because we have a school next door to our business park which has no car park.

Because of this, the inconsiderate parents like to think it is OK to park their X5's all across our land and block off access to peoples units which restricts their customers being able to park and this happens twice a day for about 3/4 of an hour at a time.

We have asked the school to sort it and they have done nothing and so we have now brought in clampers who start on Monday for as long as it is legal. The signs went up yesterday and it made not one iota of a difference as the parents are so arrogant.... private land is just that; private. we also have the added danger of having kids running up and dow the car park when there are fork lift trucks and wagons delivering to units etc. It just aint safe

Look at it this way, would you be happy if someone came and parked on your drive twice a day for 3/4 of an hour at a time for 5 days a week while you were trying to get in or out of your house?

Of course this would be criminal damage and therefore illegal Wink

I once got caught trapped in the Eastgate Centre in Inverness.   The Car-Park closed at 6pm, and it was about 5 past when I got to the barrier.   Fortunately at the time I had a Landrover 90 with a 7hp winch on the front.   So, I reversed the landrover in the region of the gate, un ravelled the winch hawse, put the hawse around one of the concrete pillars facing the gate, then attached to the gate.   I also had an 'anchor' hawse that I attached to the rear towball and a concrete pillar behind.   This way the Landy was well away from the gate when it 'Exploded' out of it's concrete stays!   A very satisfying job well done.   I did get a visit from the local constabulary the following evening, but I'd parked the landy around at a mates house, and he'd un-bolted the winch.   Fortunately there were no witnesses.   Grin

Stuart,

the clampers waited on the site in a white van with "Nationwide Clamping" all over it. And still they came and parked.

Unbeliveably, one guy even pulled up having passed the van AND past a guy actually clamping another car, got out and ran off in the direction of the school..... needless to say he deserved the clamp he got for being sooooo stupid!

There was a radio topic about this couple of weeks ago, the real answer is government should stipulate a maximum legal limit for fines, but they won't, so unscruplulous operators can charge what they like. Hence the public backlash resulting in the ban. It's nuts.

All operators have be licenced, which they are, and there are clear rules like the warning signs must be 18 x 16 inches and clearly visible, if not you have a case for getting you money back and that sort of thing.

On our car park, the signs are very large and spaced about every 4 metres.

There is nothing unscrupulous about the chaps doing ours and they have changed my opinion of some clampers.

The original story about putting the ticket under the wiper is nonsense...... nobody would do that and even think that it was acceptable and likely to be still there.... somebody coming on to park could have swiped it; if indeed it was ever there in the first place

Parking across someones driveway is illegal Rich, get the Police out.

There was a great uproar near me recently when the congregation came out to a load of parking tickets on their cars Grin
