Stay of execution for 17th year

The heap passed its MOT today

That means 2011 will be its 16th year of road worthiness. Yay! Nope never been off the road without a tax disc in all that time as far as I know.

Gas emission numbers so close on the button couldn't get a gnat's fag paper between 'em.

Needs offside rack ball joint doing up a smidgeon and a small hole developing in box section over rear axle. So getting a welder to sort it probs tomorow most likely. 'Cause ain't gonna improve by itself and will just be biggerer next year.

It's a 2L 16V Exec saloon just in case you don't know, whoever's reading this. Grin

All the best with that!

Apparently the welder turned up at my mechanic's place 8:30 this morning! So should be bringing it back literally any minute.

Congrats Mike.   It's always satisfying to get another year past the MOT.    Cheesy

And again! Yesterday Grin

Only probs were, 1. headlamp bulb decided to fail soon as he wanted to test it ~ go figure

2. the dreaded handbrake adjuster again! Seized up.

Ack-shirley, I have noticed last few months having to stamp the pedal hard occasionally to get some feeling back in it, well now it's well 'ard Grin

Back in the Summer had replaced 1 rear wheel+tyre (wear down to the indicators) with the newly new spare then had another practically new put onto that.

Mike, Is it an Auto and, if so, do you leave it in park rather than use the h/brake as this is often the cause?. I have found that undoing the bolt which holds the fulcrum lever on the top of the caliper SLIGHTLY and then levering it up before applying WD or similar can help. If you lift it,lubricate then tap it down and repeat the process a few times it may ease it. I also get a wrench on the fulcrum and work it back and forth a few times. If that fails then it usually indicates that the internal mechanism is broken.  Wink

I always alternate handbrake use, leave it off, then next time leave it on, off, on, off, on, etc. etc. My mechanic guy does all the freeing and lubing when he notices it's playing up but it's just a question of time until the next time. I just put it down to bad design. Grin
