Many thanks to Tompion. He found me a Wood-Trim Steering-Wheel on a German Ebay. I contacted the seller and he will ship to Scotland so it looks like I've managed to get my final bit of 'Bling' to 'pimp' the car up!!! Total cost, £56. It has the cruise control buttons on it as well! Now my question is, are they easy to swap over Has anyone experience of a Steering Wheel swap that they would like to impart?? Peter.

Disconnect the battery and go have a cup of tea to prevent the airbag from exploding when you disconnect it The airbag is held on by two torx bits from the rear, one at 3 o'clock, one at 9 o'clock, there are other holes at the rear so ensure you get the right ones remove the airbag, disconnect its cable, disconnect the horn wiring that runs through the centre of the wheel alongside the airbag wiring. unscrew the large bolt in the centre of the steering wheel, normally a 22mm but sometimes smaller. Get someone strong to pull the wheel off for you then refit in the reverse order The torx bits can be fiddley getting them back in...

My ebay search was based on Baz's post, glad you got it – hope it’s as good as the pictures. The PDF is here: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/steering/SteeringWHeel.pdf Disconnect the battery as mentioned but ignore the bit about removing the under tray and disconnecting the flexible coupling. You may need to remove the steering column shroud (can’t remember). There are 2 bolts holding the airbag, you’ll see where they are when you get the replacement wheel. Don’t disturb the clockspring or you’ll have to set it up again: http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/interior/airbags/abclocksprng.pdf I usually undo the centre bolt a turn or so & draw the wheel towards me to take up the slack then give the bolt a clout with a mallet to free it. Make sure the clockspring locates when you put the wheel back. When you put the airbag back study the wheel and you’ll see that if you plug it in the wrong way the plug can catch a lug on the wheel that may lever the plug off when you press the horn.

Beaten to it Here's the airbag plug positioned above the lug that can lever it off.

Thank you both very much. Once I get the Wheel it may be a little time before I fit it, but I'll post up pics once it's in place.

I had a Scorpio wooden steering wheel once - fitted it, but didn't like the way it looked so sold it on. Maybe a Marmite type thing

I bought one of the many I had off a man in a Burger King car park...... brand new unused and it cost me £25.00!! plus I got a new set of Scorpio mats off him too! Glad you found one.... resist the temptation to pick at the wood though as the varnish flakes quite easily!

I'll pick my nose instead, I'll try not to wipe it on the wheel though.

The Wheel is a bewty! It's nicely worn, and the wood is the right colour. I'm very happy............ Still got to fit it though! Got the new MINTEX front brakes in............"Wo-be-tied" those that said Mintex, 'are fantastic' if they're not! I'll be noting the mile fitted against the miles FAILED! Peter.

The new Mintex Brakeys! I'll probably fit them on Monday. Is it worth me doing a little picture story of removal/replacement? I'll post it up if someone says yes?

Peter. by all means do an article. As they say 'a picture saves a thousand words'. It may well help and we have 'How to do things ' for precisely that reason.
