Professor Matt needs a free holiday in the Higlands atm lol, 2 heads are better than one  LOL

I'm now at the mapping stage on the Puma and currently sifting through all the c@ck and bull surrounding the black magic involved in re mapping EECV 's  Grin Grin

So far I've found that most folk who claim to be able to map them are talking complete cr@p  Wink

Tweecer's Moates SCT etc are worse than useless for reflashing our European ECU's because they are encrypted differently  Wink

You can actually re flash them with a laptop and a few other little bits of kit once you get the right software and files.................
The files are almost unobtainable for the European ECU's, and each ECU is running a different strategy, so even if you can do one type you can't neccesarily do anaother even off the same model car  Angry

That's why I bought the FDS, to see what software it's got, and I'm prety sure it can re flash our ECU's as well, once you have the correct files  Wink

Just wasn’t convenient to travel that far at the moment, plus lack of funds for the petrol. See it was a last minute bid by you bet you expected another.
They didn’t exactly sell it in their description did they.

Hi Dave,

Yea, last minute, well 30 seconds actually, I've learned now that if you bid prior to auction end, some EBayers just get their mates to bump the bidding.

Yes I was expecting other bids, but I set my limit at 250 and was lucky.

I too don't really have bundles atm, but it worked out well as a local chap is coming past there today, heading for his cottage in our village !!

His ad didn't really sell it did it, I like 'em like that, puts other bidders off  Grin

Anyway, I'm off to play, postie has just delivered a load of other stuff including a Wideband Lambda kit  Grin

I spoke to the guy selling it earlier, seems a nice guy, he "won" it years ago from a Ford Dealer that went skint, and has hardly used it  Wink

Heya

Nice Purchases Dave Cheesy

the FDS can reflash an ecu but can only update an ecu once a model of car has been entered into it, there isnt an option to just reflash an ECU.

They are really easy to use TBH, you'll self teach your self in a few weekends quicker if you have a car handy to plug into!

Latest CD is number 32!

Hiya Matt,

I have up to disc 31 I beleive, it's not arrived yet............

Do you know where I can get a copy of 32 ?

I'm pretty sure it will write to the EECV EPROM once I have a working Bin File, which I should be able to load on the FDS without much grief via the FDS CD Drive  Wink

Wideband Innovate arrived today, nice bit of kit, Puma is well lean everywhere apart from low throttle / load, I'm wondering if my Fuel press reg is stuck.............

When Dave datalogged your car running the RUTH ECU it was a tad rich all the way up wasn't it ?

If so sounds like my car has a problem and not it's map , will get fuel pressure gauge on it in the week and burl it up the road Wink

Are you using your Ruth atm, if not can I borrow it to send to MSD ?

Stu has offered to read the bin from one and see if he can decode it for us.
I've got a spare Exit I'm sending him to do the same, but I only have the 1 Ruth, and the car won't drive without it  Wink

Believe it or not they haven't ever done a RUTH or an EXIT before so they dont have the def files so we can understand what goes where  Sad

Regards Dave

Sorry, to take this off subject a little. Matt, is running RUTH a recommended and worthwhile mod. Just watched your YouTube run in second gear from 2 to 5.5rpm. Well impressed with power delivery. Is this associated with your manual box/ a 2l diff if fitted / S/S exhaust etc.. Or RUTH. My Cossie 2l diff S/S exhaust is quick but yours is quicker.   Grin

Hey

Adam:

When i did that pull in 2nd the car was was set up with standard Diff and exhaust. Also the VIS wasn't working as Dave and myself had not worked out how to get that going then. Also the ecu had only been 'live' for 10 mins or so so it was still in the learning stage. The Ruth is only for manual converted or cars running the BOB with a manual gearbox. The ECU comes from the Mondeo ST manuals

should be a little quicker now the VIS can be used correctly (its switching points are only a few 100RPM off the Scorpio ECU. IT also allows the car to rev slightly higher. when I did some power runs with another Dave it revved up to 6750. That and Ive upgraded the fuel pump to a 255 unit the car runs slightly rich which I'll sort out with either some sensors form the Mondeo engine or just stick a K&N on it to really suck air lol

Only trouble i have now is im having to rebuild my gear box and diff. they were never fully checked when i did the convo and now Ive got a rumbling above 50. plus the Escort cosworth clutch i used isn't really up to the job, If you really push the car it feels like its slipping and afterwards there's hardly any clutch pedal feel which to me sounds like its getting very hot. But once all the above is done (doing it over winter) and if Dave manages to crack the Ruth and make it mappable should see the car even quicker still.

I do like that supercharged car, Its a possibility on the 4.0 as im planning on dumping the AC system as I never use it and the pump has been dead for 2 years now lol

Dave:

I'll try and copy the CD as i have 32.

I don't think the FDS can do that sort of thing Dave, you'll see when its delivered. only way i can think of doing it is to find the file on the CD, Replace it and then re burn a CD with the new file.

The WDS or the new IDS is a lot more capable then the FDS but WDS' are rare and the full IDS setup is over £3000 lol

Yea as above the car ran slightly rich all the way up the rev band but was getting better by the end of the day. it was still in MOT pass limits though which i know isn't really an issue for you Tongue

Did you upgrade to the Scorpio fuel pump or still running Puma? also i think the Fiestas and Pumas only run a 2.7bar fuel reg

Yea can't see me using the RUTH for a while now as weve proved it works i wanted to use the brand new engine bay loom i bought on it and modify it so all connections just go through the one black plug.

SO long as i get it back in working order then yea no probs lol. Have you spoke to Dave H? ive already sent him a 98 spec Scorpio ECU which he sent off to another ECU coder cracker. not heard anything for a while on that one though

Hiya Matt,
That is some acceleration with only the manual box conversion. Hope you get it rebuilt/changed soon. It still puts my modded auto's to shame.
I vaguely remember someone advised me to swap my auto box for the Ford Explorer 4.0 auto box. Please correct me if I am mistaken.
I was unaware Ruth was only for manuals. Thanks for the info.

Is the 255 the Walbro? Is it a good mod as a standalone item. I already have an induction kit installed but would like to improve it some-more.

Matt is your 4.0 a Chevy block project?

Thanks again for your advice.

P.S  A note to Admin's please. We don't appear to have a modded section on the forum. I know we have a modded section on the main pages but nothing on the forum itself to explain and show various examples of improvements.
I would like to see this section as a database of what can be achieved and improved upon.

Thank you.

Hi Adam

Dave2302 is your man for the auto box, Your info is 90% correct. he rebuilds the Scorpio 2WD unit using the much beefier explorer internals. they turn out very strong, stronger then the MT75 Manual box the Scorpio used. After losing my first Scorpio to a malfunctioning auto box, I converted mine to manual because i wanted it to be more of a drivers car. i know their build for wafting but they can shift too (plus it makes mine a bit different lol). Also being a fully electronic auto box there is/was some research done into making it 'selectable' like a flappy paddle system

Ive got all the new bearings and 3 gear sets to mix and match to make one very good strong box, one very good box for a 12v (odd gearing in it??) and a box which will be a bit rough in first and third. Diff will be done at same time and prop shaft going off for a full referb to. Im going to use a HD AP Racing clutch. It's not cheap but i was on a tight budget when i first build the car up

http://www.burtonpower.com/parts-by-category/transmission-clutch-wheels/ clutches-std-performance/ap-racing-clutch-cover-cosworth-v6-240mm-cp3380-2.html

^^ should be more then up to the job CheesyCheesyCheesy

No my 4.0 is from the Explorer so it's still a good old cologne lump, hence why some much of the 2.9 stuff bolts straight on Smiley

Yea the 225 is a walbro, packs a bit more punch then the standard unit but i find its quite noisy tbh and it gives the fuel reg some stick. I fitted it because i had to drop the tank anyway to replace it (rotted through under the tank straps) so it was easy to do at the time and swaps straight over

Hows you induction kit fitted? the cossie generates huge amounts of heat which an open cone filer will suck straight back into the intake (even with a cold air feed) either fit a heat shield or mount it lower down. Im planning on sticking with the standard air box with a performance element, modded slightly on the bottom for flow and moving the oil breather after the filter so it doesn't oil it up. im currently running the car with the NS headlight side cover off which allows the trumpet to suck straight from the grill, only issue is it also sucking in water when its raining so i plan to mod the cover slightly. I also plan to ditch the resonator box, doesn't make to much difference to the induction noise but gets rid of a restriction.

Thanks Matt,

That's great information.
On the BurtonPower performance clutch, does anyone else need to drive it. I only ask as some years ago I nearly purchased a modded Renault 5GT Turbo with a performance clutch. I drove it and loved it until the then girlfriend tried having a test drive. Big mistake  Grin
She wasn't strong enough to operate the clutch!
A deal breaker I'm afraid as she drove mainly after nights out  Grin

Yes, I have fitted the cone into an airbox. I really must rework it as it mainly makes more noise than power Cheesy

I am going to look further into a supercharger. The one on YouTube is an Eaton M62. Have read some reports that at full throttle knock sensors kick in.

Hi Matt,

Copy of 32 will be great.

Yeah, I agree with you re re flashing, but what you say is what I planned to do,
i.e. copy the disc with Mondeo Ruth files to laptop, delete that bit, and replace it with my own new bin file using the same name as the original file, then burn a new disc and use that...........
That sounds doable foolery to me Wink

I used the Scorpio 24V stock pump, where did you get the Walbro ? I'll get one if neccesary.

Will do a pressure test later this week.............Now I know yours runs a tad rich and pulls ok I doubt my problem is the fuel / ignition map..............

I suspect my pressure regulator is stuck on idle mode, if so I'll replace it with an adjustable one, mounted on the inner wing.  I'm using a BOB Fuel Filter and 10mm kunifer pipes up to the stock BOB engine pipes on the inner wing, so should be more than adequate pipe wise  Grin
I used the BOB regulator as it's in the fuel rail LOL, Puma one was sold with Puma Engine, as it's on its fuel rail too  Wink

Re your Ruth, of course I'll replace it if it got fubar, but he won't do that, Stu @ MSD knows what he's doing, he just wants to read and copy the firmware in it, won't be modifying it or touching it in any way.
I was going to buy another as I could do with a spare but atm theres only one on EBay at £60 plus postage.................Joker  Grin

Are you near Blackpool ? you could drop it in yourself and tell him it's via me as we are discussing about sorting this out atm..............

All we need is the Cal file to decode the Firmware into human intelligeable language, so that's why Stu needs to get the bin from the 2 ECU's, cos he doesn't have the cal files atm  Wink

If not, post it me registered, and I'll drop it in, as I'm going there in a week or so  Wink
I'll post it back, he'll not need it for long just to read it and copy the bin  Wink

Haven't discussed with Dave H yet, but once  I know more I will, but it was DH that suggested MSD @ Blackpool a while ago  Wink

Cheers for now
