Below are some pictures I’ve hosted for Mike (Simmo).
..............................

Thank's Dave.

Fairly self explanatory. I was having the sills re done and you can see the drivers side has been replaced. In the course of the work the wheel liners were removed and thus exposed the inner arches adjacent to the rear suspension. The nearside sill has been cut out ready for repair showing the extent of damage.

I thought the photos might help others.

The guy doing the work is now off for a week but I'll update when completed. He reckons the work will give the car another five years...he's not sure he can do the same for me!!. Grin

Mine was rusty in the same place on the inner wheel arches but nowhere near as bad as that. We put double the thickness of sheet metal over it than the garage would have done so has that added 10 years life on it?  Lol. The sills and inner sills were still fine though.

You must have been taking yours out in the rain too much lol.

Dont the sunroof front drains go into the sills ?. Have you checked under the door rubber seals, where they go on the roof lip, my scorp had a bit there  Sad.  Last year I had to weld a patch on the o/s rear chassis where the abs cable goes inside the car, lots of thin steel layers for water to get caught in and rust  Angry.

Blimey Mike, the old tin worms must really like the taste of your car Roll Eyes

But think of the weight saving if you kept the holes - better handling round corners and faster 0-60 Grin Wink

One thing I've learned with my old cars, is that the best defence is to keep several gallons of Waxoyl in the garage and use it as a weapon - even old Cinderella has learned now that if she dared show a bubble of tin worm then it's wheels off and 10 gallons of Waxoyl pumped into the sills...that's enough to scare pretty much any car into submission, even a UK built one Roll Eyes
