Title: Car Tax rates in Ireland Post by geraghtyg on Mar 21st, 2004, 6:29pm As I have already mentioned in a previous post, Ireland has a draconian car taxation system. Below is a link which will bring you to the Dublin City Council tax rate web site. Scroll down about 1/2 way down the page and you will see the rates the council charges. All I can say is that I'll never be able to afford to tax a Cossie!!! |

But that doesnt stop there, I'm sure you wouldnt insure your Cosworth in ireland either. My yongest sister is trying to insure a Nova and was qouted a crazy E2800 euros, she didnt buy the car that was going for 450 euros. Alot of people living there are in dire strates, the cost of living is driving alot of eople to live else where including me! they are know calling it "Rip off Ireland" JJ |

Title: Re: Car Tax rates in Ireland Post by Mick Saunders on Mar 22nd, 2004, 4:22pm >:( We are are being ripped of over here in England to, What with the price of petrol, (going up again in September thanks to Our Gordon Brown), Road Tax, Insurance rates (Not as high as yours), Lack of maintenance on the roads, Congestion charges, either in place or being thought about, Toll Motorway,Toll Bridges/ Tunnels + of course S.O.R.N (Statutory off Road Notification). If you dont register the vehicle whilst it is off of the road I.E :- for renovation/ long term repair. and I also think for use as a spares vehicle.(Not registered with a Scrap Yard) someone will set me right on that one. Substantial fines will be encountered. Not forgetting the Police favorite fund raiser good old Gatso/ Electonic speed traps. Mark you , you are worse off in Erin Regards, Mick |

DOHC 2.3L = E755 p.a while the 2.9 Scorpios (12V and 24V Cosworth) both top out at 1,109 Euros per annum!! Wow. And quite right too - why should you filthy criminals want to use a motor car and mess up those beautiful Irish roads? ::) Here in London, if you have to use your car to get into the Congestion Zone that could easily cost £1300 p.a. |

Title: Re: Car Tax rates in Ireland Post by JohnJ on Mar 23rd, 2004, 4:34pm Blooming cost the price of a house to keep the cosie on the road!!! :o, By the way, there are no beautiful roads in Ireland (where I come from) they are all already messed up.. all the money is going to dublins roads. This is the first year that ireland has to give back some money to the EU.... before this they had got grants for everything from roads to sheep. I can see the roads deteriating from now on. Ireland has had massive benifits joining the EU and now is comming to a stop and it shows. the cost of living is twice as high as the uk in general. I dont pay congestion charges or tolls in Newry. just car tax. £165 per annum In northern ireland or e700= euros in the south, mmmm north for me ;D. |
