Title: 'Service light'
Post by allante on Mar 29th, 2004, 11:24pm
Hi
Whilst playing around with my odmeter button in an idle moment waiting for the missus, i noticed that when it first enters the diagnostic mode it makes the display show everything. included in 'everything' is the word 'Service'
Is this a service reminder 'light' and if so is there any way it can be brought into operation?
Anyone know anything about it?

Andy

Go on, up you get, out to the car!
Actually, reading others posts, they all say that the first thing that happens is the dials rise and fall. Not so on mine, that only happens the first time you turn on the ignition AFTER you have been through the different screens and back to the start.
Its not a service screen as such, its just all the segments and words and icons displaying at the same time, amongst them is the word 'service'
this is the first screen mine goes into, then on th enext presses of the button it cycles through all the other stuff.
Maybe mines special   :P

;D ;D

some confusion I think ??? the very first thing you do to enter the diagnostic mode is to press and hold the trip button for several seconds. on entering diagnostic mode the cluster gives a long beep and the LCD screens display all values. without pressing the trip button have a look at the right hand LCD screen. the word service should be among all the other values.

looking at the screen there's quite a lot of unused icons.

Hope this settles confusion ;D

Kind regards

Danny R

See! Dannys does it too!
Danny you will have to forgive my friend Alan, he becomes easily confused due to lack of sleep!  ;D

yes, i know it is an unused icon, i just thought it odd that they bothered to include it in the display and not actually use it. would have been handy (especially for Alan with his memory!)  ;)

could it be for a different country ?

Hmm, its definitely there isn't it. Could any of the 'other countries brigade' on here let us know if it works on theirs?
Or... has anyone had an instrument cluster out? If so, can they tell us if there's an unused terminal or connector on it.
And... if there is a terminal for it, can anyone work out how to connect it up?
Or... could this be something that could be done by the amazing Ford machines? You know, like a software update.
Would be a nice touch I think. Mind you, its something else to go wrong isn't it.  :-/

I did ask my local fmd and he said he had never heard of it being in use. he recently updated my software and said there was nothing mentioned on fds2000 about the service indicator

I just had the instrument cluster out - no spare sockets that I could see (or remember!!)

Had to replace some bulbs - small ones cost £3.61 each! :-X

I would imagine its activated by the eec-v programming rather than a physical connection.
Next time youre in a breakers yard, rip the instruments out of a Mk3 Granada and pinch all the bulbs, theyre the same as the scorpio ones (i know cos i just did!)
