Hi!
First of all let me apologize for not owning a scorpio and being here bugging you with my doubts.
I own a Mk1/2 capri and i'm considering fitting a cosworth 24v v6 on it ;), the only catch is the gearbox witch MUST be manual, do you guys know if its a fairly easy job to make the change? I heard that it was more or less a bolt on job with a MT75(4x4) with gearings from a T5(RWD), is this correct? has anyone tried it?
How about a T5 from a sierra cossie? would it fit the 24v as well?

Sorry for the long post and hope you can help me and give some advice on this.( i think i got all the names on the gear boxes right, please correct me if not)

:) Hi most things are possible with money thrown at them. the Cosworth 24 valve produces a lot of torque which would blow most manual boxes away I don't know if anybody on this site has tried it. Also I have not heard of anyone in any of the Clubs doing it (They may dream of it.). If somebody has, I stand to be corrected & would they let me know how to do it. A manual 24 valve, 207hp Cossie. I dream. Maybe Scorpioman Knows something?.

I presume that you have the wiring loom, ecu. etc, as this will need to be altered/adjusted . john.n ???

my capri is fitted with a type 9 at the moment.

It is handling the power, althought its starting to wine after only 300 miles...

use a 2.8 flywheel, and a 2.8 clutch and a 2.8 type 9. Also find a spigot bearing from a 2.9 4x4.

get a custom speedo cable made up so that you can install a sierra 4x4 speed sensor and wire this up to the ecu ( pin 3 possibly, cant remember off the top of my head ). This will stop it stalling at junctions.

Alternitivly, you can get a 2wd MT74 from a granada / sierra, and a 4x4 mt75 from a sierra / granada. unbolt the rear sections of both, and bolt the 2wd rear section into the front section of the 4x4. This is because the bell housings are part of the cast of the gearbox. This will give you a much stronger gearbox, plus no messing about with inline speed sensors as the mt75 can take both a speed sensor ( flat type ) and a type 9 style speedo cable.

also, if you are after a bit more power, there is a lot of talk at the moment about using the BOB exh came timing plates to retard the exh timing and reducing overlap.

A T5 cossie box is your best bet. I was heavily into capris and this was the common box to use tho others have been used.  For more technical info try the Capri Club International. They will give you all the answers you need.

pretty spot on .. T5 is the stuff .. Mustang box if you can or some TVR's ..will take 350+BHP .. but MT75 WILL take the power without much hassle .. I run a BOA cossie transit on the T9 pudding stirrer but it's fine  ..Granada bellhousing on the Scorp .. bridge the PRNGL switch to fool the electronics into thinking it's in park ..< save buying a module > and strap it safely up somewhere .. pedal box etc ..ramble ..ramble.. MT75 on our development car but with special bearings and so on .. not sure why people worry about doing it .. no rocket science involved ... regards ...STN

Hi all
Judging by the response this is a very common conversion. I am doing one myself at the moment.
MT75 is popular as it can handle the torque but is not quiet geared for best performance, type 9 is geared correctly but can't handle the torque as it's a common fault with the old 2.8 xr4x4. You can change the countershaft in the MT 75 to get about 178mph@7000rpm if you up your power of course!
A T5 will probably cost you an arm & a leg. The norm is to use a 2.8 flywheel as the engine picks up better & I am surprised you Capri guys normally use the BOA Cosworth?

 :D I must say I'm amazed!!! In all the time I've been with this site, I've never seen any mention about Manual G/Boxes for Cossies. The last few post's have certainly opened my eyes to the possibilities. It just goes to show "Where there is a will there is a way".

Hey Mick...... i have an ols fast ford mag sumwhere and in it is a scorp  ultima which had a 5.7 chevi with  a t5 manual box. Recorded speed was in excess of 160!!!!
