Title: Radio Change
Post by Old_Sparky on Sep 29th, 2004, 6:39pm
Hi Folks

I've just changed my old 91 Scorpio for a 96 Ultima that I picked up at auction for £500. It's being mot'd and serviced at the moment. I've been reading various posts and articles, and am impressed with the quality of information. Now this probably a dumb question, but what tools are required to remove the old radio a 2006 ???. I intend changing it for a 6000 cd unit.  I've read the item elsewhere on the site so refitting should'nt be so bad.

Thanks
Chris

well the only "tools" you need for removal, are the radio keys (extraction tools),slide them in untill they click, bend them slightly toward the doors, give a "jiggle",and the unit should slide out.....
what if any wiring changes are needed, sorry cant help there...

As I mentioned the car came from an auction, there are no manuals or tools, I assume ford dealers will stock the removal keys ?

You can get the keys from most motor shops at a fraction of the cost of what Fords will want for them if they stock them,
Just go to one and ask them and if you show them your head unit they will be able to help you out.
Should only be a couple of quid.

All branches of Halfords have the keys in blister packs for a round about a fiver if memory serves me right

Or make them from a wire coat hanger, alternativly 2 small screwdrivers and release 1 side at a time. When inserted the tools deed to be levered to the outside of the car to extract the radio. john.n ;)

Have you got the 6000 yet or do you intend buying one ?,
The reason for asking is it is not going to be a straight forward fit as you are taking a DIN sized radio out and wanting to replace it with a DIN & 1/2 unit. You should have a small pocket under the 2006, this is screwed in from the rear and then you have a small strip of plastic separating the apertures, this will have to be cut out and even when this is done the aperture may still need some fine tuning with a file etc. If you haven't got the 6000 yet why not go for an after market CD/radio with an ISO adapter and you will get a better sound too.

Richard

To late already got the 6000 unit. As for sound quality I'm not too bothered about having a state of the art system. As long as I can listen to Wogan in the mornings I'll be happy. ;D. thanks for the advice I'll check Halfords when I'm passing.
