Title: Heater Blower only working full blast
Post by Ranjo on Oct 20th, 2004, 12:47pm
Hi all on my scorpio ghia the heater blower stopped working on the two slow speeds and would only work on full blast. being a long time ford owner i knew that the resistor had given up the ghost. bought a new one from ford £30. they refused to tell me where it was situated on the car as they are not allowed to give out "technical info" but they could fit it for the price of three hours labour!
A second ford dealer told me that it is located at the top of the blower motor which is situated behind the glove box and would require removal of said glove box, which i did but guess what still no location of resistor.
frustrated and thinking horrible thoughts about all ford staff i lifted the bonnet and just happened to spot the resistor casing situated behind the bulk head and to the left of the battery cover. five minutes later using a single screw driver i had changed the resistor and all is working fine.
the reffitting of the glove box is another story though! hope this helps anyone who encounters this heaster problem this winter.

Yes, common fault on the Mk3 as well that. Can't believe Ford wanted 3 hrs labour!! Was the dealer called 'D Turpin & Son'?  ;)

Since fitting the resistor it has blown again and have now had to shell out for a new switch resistor and blower motor and it has been a b****r to fit the blower motor as have had to strip quite a bit of casing etc also had to re gas the air con but finally all is well!

Hi!
I have fixed my fan resistor.
It´s an temperature fuses in the resistor unit, you can buy an new one and fix the unit.
That fuses costs about 15 sw krones it migth be about one pound, the job takes 10 mins to do!

Just wondering if someone could post a pic of the resistor where it's mounted so I can find it  ;D

Fan setting 1 and 2 has stopped working, so I guess it's the resistor. Thought I would have a look at it before I change mine.

is this what you are looking for Thermal Fuse (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acthermalfuse.htm) ?????

Probably. Thanks Snoopy!

Slightly small photo though, should have been a "click to enlarge" option  :)

Found it  :)

The continuity tester on my multi meter gave no beep when I checked the thermal fuse, but had no problems with the three wire resistors. When I checked the thermal fuse with the ohm meter, it gave a reading of approx 96k ohms. I guess a fuse should have A LOT less resistance than that?

Update: Temporarily soldered a short piece of wire in instead of the fuse, and all fan settings work perfectly now. Also ordered two new fuses at the correct rating and will swap the wire for one of them when I get them. (probably monday)

Cost was approx £1.5 a piece. I think this must be the cheapest repair I've done so far  ;D
