Title: Brake Questions ? Post by mr._floppy on Dec 19th, 2004, 6:53pm I'll be tackling brake pad replacement soon, after perusing the appropriate pages on this site, two questions- 1. Front Caliper removal, are the caliper securing bolts hexagonal or Allen , and what size ? 2. Rear Caliper piston, which direction ( Anti-clockwise or clockwise ) should the piston be rotated to enable new pad fitment, and is the special Ford Tool a strict neccessity , or can something else be bodged up to do the job? |

Title: Re: Brake Questions ? Post by Dai_Fish on Dec 19th, 2004, 10:53pm The fronts are 7mm allen key, I am not sure about direction of rear pistons off hand, I used to hire the tool from my local autoparts shop, I think they used to charge me about a fiver. Hope that helps Dai |

Title: Re: Brake Questions ? Post by daven on Dec 20th, 2004, 7:52am I 'bodged' it on mine last time and found the caliper had gone back off square and seized :-[ Fixed it by taking it all apart again and carefully putting pressure on the pedal until it moved back out and then used the correct tool (local shop for about £15)! So I would say its worth it! I can't remember which way to turn, but it will be self evident! Cheers Daven |

Title: Re: Brake Questions ? Post by Snoopy on Dec 20th, 2004, 11:18am The rear brakes rotate clowise to get them back in and the correct tool really is a MUST IMHO. as without it you could be really struggling.... Its not just the Scorpio that use it Most modern cars with Disc Handbrakes do.... |
