Title: Alarm / Remote
Post by EinA on Jan 9th, 2005, 5:44pm
Hi all,
Some where over the last couple of days either on the forum or the list there was a question about a after market alarm and non ford remote.

If i was't dreaming this, is it possible to use a non Ford remote  with the doors / alarm ???

hi

yes there was some "toying" with the idea, however the one from the transit does not work, and neither does the universal one from maplins.....
so it does look like the your only choice is the original ford scorpio one.......
i'm thinking that it is all down to the frequency that the remotes use, hence it has to be the original one...

I can hear my other cars (and others) remotes on 433.920 +/-, but not the Scorps - so what frequency is it on?

if we get the codes or a duff remote we should be able to get them from america it is worth trying as the originals seem to be hard to get and tempremental ta david

Yep,    companies   like  Scorpion  can supply and  fit  remote  locking/immobiliser /alarm  systems   to   Fords  and  any other  cars  that  don't  have  it fitted  as  standard.

Which I suspect would be a very complex job due to the multiplexed nature of the wiring system.

There have also been numerous problems caused by 'aftermarket' alarms even those fitted by 'experts'. Be very wary.

I remember fitting a  remote  Locking/movement sensor Alarm   system  to  a    AUDI 80   ( which had  factory fitted  central   locking  ).

Done it  in  an  afternoon,   though the  movement sensor was way too  sensitive    and  would  trip  the alarm  at   the  merest  air   disturbance.

Had an aftermarket alarm on the Scorpio when bought, didn't really work well with it. Was a decent make alarm but, as above, the Scorpio is complex enough without adding to it. I would guess that some alarms are better suited to the Scorpio that others.

I have a Defa system with movement sensor/glass break sensor/etc, and never had any problems. Wind/weather/etc. has never been a problem. So I guess they're not all bad.
