Title: Dodgy Discs.
Post by mr._floppy on Jan 24th, 2005, 3:18pm
I've noticed  since fitting new front brake pads that the slight steering vibration I used to get when applying the brakes  has now become a definite steering wobble on application.

I'm thinking, have the new pads just magnified  an  already established problem ( the front  discs were  slightly rusty but I've seen worse ) or  have I fitted  them  incorrectly ?  Is there something else that  could cause  the wobble ?

It's just annoying that I'll probably  have to  strip them down again ,      GRRRRrrr!

I had a look on E-Bay for front discs  What do you think of these   No.-  4520810827.

Cheap and nasty or  a bargain ?

Dunno about the Ebay ones, but my local car shop sold me a set for just over £40 - they have been fine for well over a year!

Why buy stuff on Ebay when you can most probably get better and  cheaper at your local Motor Factor Shop and some where to take them back to if they are wrong..

Its your life and possibly someone elses if they fail...

Something IMHO you CANNOT take chances with  just like tyres

In my case a series of discs replaced under warranty because of suspected warping turned out to be bushes.

Comments from garages about discs being as useful as chocolate fireguards now seem a little unfair.  ;D

Replaced both front discs to-day , as easy and  straightforward as  the  instructive  website  page  states.     Only slight  snag  was  removal  of old   factory  fitted  original discs , well tight , much  prising  ( caliper piston   retractor  coming   in  very handy  forcing  disc  off  hub )   and  thwacking  with  hammer proved successful.    Braking now as smooth as the proverbial.

Two  new discs  plus next day delivery  service from Devon to Scotland  for £40 ,  can't be bad.

Hi mr floppy,

I bought my discs from the same eBay seller last year - they went on fine and haven't caused me any problems or concerns in the last 6 months...

Just though I'd letcha know...

One way to spare the discs on your car is to check the anti-roll bar when the bushes in the front suspension lower arm are being heavily worned out by the time.Change these and you probably will notice a great difference when you brake if your discs are in some cind of  normal state!.

Pier you are refering to a Granada, Scorpio's 95+ have a different suspension set up that was designed to stop the problem you described but you are correct in what you say reguarding the Granada.
