Title: WRINKLY REAR BUMPERS
Post by johnv on Feb 9th, 2005, 8:45pm
What's going on them.
The Body repair shop ordered a brand new rear bumper for my 1996 2.0 Estate, which that Guy late for work and in a blind panic drove into the back of me as if I was not there.
So the new bumper arrived from the Ford Main Agent and it was un-wrapped and it had lots and lots of wrinkels in it.
So it was returned and another bumper ordered.  but the second one was the exact same.
So Ford have ordered a third one from Germany.
Only god knows, if this will be any different.
Anyone got any ideas. what going on.

My Car Body Shop has had two brand new bumpers supplied by Ford and both faulty. So they sent to Germany for one and that's the same.
It was a woman in the office who desribed them as Wrinky.
I seen to day what they mean its wavy, as you look along from one end to another, they sort of go in and out. With gloss paint on they would look so bad.
But there is another fault in that the bonding is just so poor.
So I have been told, that Ford have gathered them all up and they are being returned to who ever makes them.
I now got to wait at least a month for new bumpers to be re-manufactured, before they can proceed with the work.
The trouble is now that, the mot runs out to-morrow and the tax at the end of the month.
So I will not be able to tax it without a mot. so it looks like i will have to do one of those sorn statement.
The problem is that the number plate lights have gone inside the bumper. no number plate lights no mot.
Still i might as well get a hack saw and cut a hole in the damaged part and fish out the lights to get them working.

FREE TOW BARS.
Well I got onto Sainsburys Bank Insurance and told them the story of the got to wait for a new bumper to be made and it would be at least a month to 6 weeks etc.
So I said I wanting a replacement car a auto and with a towbar.
So after a bit of discussion, they offered to fit to one of my other cars a good quality tow bar for me to keep.
Well I cuffed, I mean I got a brand new towbar supplied and fitted and they are saving on hiring costs.
The tow bar on the damage bumper car saved me from more damage than the bumper. The repair chap said it might have gone further forward and that it might have damaged the tailgate door.
Well it certainly damaged the other car, (very good, serve him right) smashed his from bumper and stoved in his rad.
They dont look bad, all you can see is the tow ball, not like having to look at a lot of girders etc.
