Title: Replacing the Fuel Shut Of Loom - 2.3i
Post by Phil_Waller on Feb 12th, 2005, 4:52pm
Please use this as a guide as well as this article on the main site ( http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/dohcloom.htm )

I have taken some photos myself that I will upload at some point but they are not much different to those in the article I have linked above..

Scorpio 2.3DOHC- Fuel Shut off loom
Part Number: FINIS 1063559

Replaced this loom.  Not as easy as originally thought.

Basically the procedure is as follows.

Remove the plastic HT cover from the head of the engine

Remove the rubber intake pipe that is attached to the throttle body.

Get the new loom and line it up with the existing one.

Starting from the front of the engine remove the plugs from each component along the top of the engine replacing old with new.

Work to the back and replace the EGR plug

Carefully remove the rail that sits on the injectors, ease each one, one by one then remove the whole rail.

Remove the TPS plug and replace with new.

This is where it gets tricky...

You will need to get under the car and have enough room to get your hand up behind the end of the engine you will also need to get your hand in a very small gap (mine are boxers hands and I struggled.)

Remove the VSS plug and the round earth plug. Pull the rest of the loom from the front of the engine up and out..

Thread the loom back down towards the gearbox making sure it follows the same route.

Get the VSS plug on first and with a bit of luck you will have threaded the cable properly and the small round earth plug will be near the protruding thread that it goes on..

Getting the earth plug on is a thing job with a capital B. I had to make a tool to hold it over the thread and then push it on with a big screwdriver. I busted my knuckles and bruised my forearm doing this..

Once that is done replace the two sensors plugs (heat sensors) just behind the thermostat.

Carefully lift the power steering fluid reservoir up and out of the way.

Undo the 10 mm bolt that secures the loom multi-plug to the main engine wiring loom. Make sure it fits and goes home properly. Once you have done this secure the multi-plug by tightening up the 10 mm bolt.

Have a look around to make sure you have attached all the multi-plugs. Waggle the loom to make sure it is sitting unstressed.

Replace the air intake pipes and the HT cover.

Start the car up!!! You may hear some misfiring momentarily.. But continued misfire is a sign of a fault.

Eric - feel free to use this to enhance the one on the site. I have to say the VSS plug and the earth plug are real things and shouldnt be attempted by a novice..
