Title: Induction Kits
Post by dexix on Feb 15th, 2005, 12:40pm
Does anyone know if it would be at all advantagous to replace the standard air filter on a 24v with a free flow induction kit like a k&n 57i style one? Can it be done? I know there wont be one specifically for my car but it appears you can get "universal" ones.

I often read articles on increasing performance on cars that start by saying change the exhaust and air filter first...

Has anyone tried?

Nick

Hi Nick .. we do loads of kits for the Scorp and there are certain things to bear in mind .. firstly the K&N to fit the existing air box will improve running a bit  .. a free flow cone filter can be fitted and the crankcase breather either piped into whatever conversion you do or just have a small breather fitted to it .. you do risk weakening the mixture with more air but the eec will compensate partly ..the power difference won't be tremendous but it will rev and run slightly more freely.. some filters are better with removal of the resonator box but the Cossie definitely isn't ! ..and the MAF sensor is already at it's optimum point in the air intake.. and doesn't want to be moved very far ..underbonnet generates a great deal of heat and the cone filter or open filter needs a heatshield ..fed from your existing fresh air vent .. all in all it helps a bit ..it's slightly more cosmetically appealing and a fraction better on economy .. do not under any circumstances remove the diffuser mesh grille on the front of the MAF ......... hth ..regards .....STN

Thanks for that STN - I guessed it wouldnt be that straight forward as its a scorpio we are talking about! I take it you are a supplier of said parts then? Do you have a website or even better is it possible to come visit you?

Thanks again

Nick

Hi Nick .. unfortunately our website < about a hundred pages > STILL isn't finished yet .. but yes ..it holds details of all our parts and development stuff in various sections .. it won't be long now though .. regarding induction, as with our exhausts ..we build mostly to the specific car but have many scorps around so we could build one to your own design if you wished ..and lastly of course you are welcome to visit .. any members of this site have an open invitation always  ..but we are in Devon !!! ........ cheers ......STN

Looks cool so far STN  8)
nice to see the Scorpio illustrated and mentioned, makes a refreshing change to see especially on aftermarket products.
Keep up the good work and can't wait to see the end result  ;)

Blimey STN, you on commission from the tourist board  ;D   How can you say the winters aren't severe. I remember a definite light frost over Christmas  :o  Keep meaning to drop in when I'm passing mate but just seems a bit rude unannounced  :-[
