Title: Lubricants for Scorpio 2.3
Post by Scorpi098 on Feb 25th, 2005, 3:09pm
Hi All,
A pretty basic question I suppose really, but having recently acquired a very nice 1998 2.3 Ultima I will of course be checking and topping up as required the various lubricant levels. Problem is how will I know whether Synthetic or Petroleum oils have been used. I  believe I am right in thinking that the two should not be mixed together, so if unable to determine, should the existing oils in the engine and gearbox be drained and refilled. Does the same apply to other fluids such as the Power Steering etc.

on the 2.3,i personally use a semi-synthetic,so if you are not 100% certain, drain off the old oil,and replace with the semi, also try to use a genuine ford oil filter (they have a check valve fitted in them, basically this means there is always a little oil left in the filter)..

HTH
