i and others have been on about the temp gauge not rising from out of the blue section.
To refresh, my 1996 2.0 goes straight up to the mid section and stays there but the other three cars which are low mileage never rise from the bottom blue section.
This is what I don't understand.
To day my 1998 cosworth when in for its MOT. You know how they leave them running on the ramp while they carry on with what ever they are doing.
Well after the test was completed, the car was lovery and warm inside and blow me the temperture had gone to mid way.
Anyone can you put your finger on why. I hate not understanding things.
All I can come up with is, something must have been sticking and it must have un-stuck itself.

hi there

i had to change my thermostat when i got it. same problem, only going to top of blue box. new one fixed it, now mid way.

strange thing was the old one seemed fine, though i never tested it.

thanks you for that scorpio-man. I think I will change the thermostat on the 1998 saloon car and see if that corrects this. If it does I change then on the other car as well. Well I might as well change then for the very little exspence that they cost.

another common problem is the solder on the circiut board goes dry, ie contracts when warm or hot. that is why the gauge read half way when stationary, interior hot

its actually detailed somewhere on this site, remove dash etc and blanket solder the circuit board.

thanks bertie, i remember that answer was given some time ago, so i supposed it was you then.
but thats just to heavy for me to get involved in. i would rather stay with it as it is.
but i will just try the one car and try a new therostat and just to see what going on with the old one; heat it up in a old saucepan to see if it does open up ok.
