Title: Seat Belts.
Post by johnv on Feb 26th, 2005, 8:05pm
Can any one help me with this please.
I got a car, where the N/S/R belt is u/s.
What it is, is that the orange plunger in the female socket is jammed right down and will not pop up.
I seen for sale a set of three rear seat belts.
Now all my cars, the metal blade that goes into the orange socket, has two cut outs in this.
Even, my 1996 March car.
The set i looking at appear to have just one very large oblong cut out.
I don't want to mix two different type of belts in my cars.
Is the one with the one large cut out for an early car. I been told that these belts are from a 1996 car, but my 1996 car has the two cut outs.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

hi baz. i still working on the photos bit.

but to see what i mean go ebay, then go 4530338731 and you will see a set of three rear belts.

If you look at the steel chrome flange it got just one oblong slot cut into it. That the flange that slips into the female socket.
The seller is saying that they are from a 1996 scorpio.
What I not understanding is that my 1996 March scorpio has belts the same as all my 1997 and 1998 cars, these have two small serpate cuts out.
Pvs chap on ebay says he got some for sale and wants me to phone him, but i not going to bother because i just know he will want to much.
just one belt on ford parts are about £80 odd pounds.

Wouldn't a replacement catch be easier/cheaper rather than replacing all the belts?
Someone's bound to have one somewhere :D

I don't want to change all the belts. but if you got to buy a set and they are cheap enough, then you might as well have the others as spares.
My problem is that on the N/S/R belt the female socket that the flange goes into;  the orange bit is struck down and jammed.
If any one had this part  I would certainly consider buying this off them.

I used to think the same but after recently clearing out my stock of seventies and eighties ford junk (kept just in case...) I can now get three cars in the garage :)

I wonder how long you will wait to use your spare seatbelts ;)

yes Vulcan, that is right. God you are a very clever chap.
See what buging me is that my 1996 scorpio  has the same as your picture and the others cars being 1997 and 1998.
So why is madmanscopio telling me his are from a 1996. he even got a set of 5 belts for £29.99 buy it now. and they are from he say a 1996.
Can't be I am thinking, frogeye's started in late 1995. I thinking they must be for the type of scorpio before the frogeye.
Unless they had some seat belts left from the old scopio's and used then up on the Frogeye. but mine is March.
But thanks again, very good of you. I now clear on what I going to do, I will order one from Ford Parts at about £80. because by the time I used up lots or petrol going around scrap yards and got my feet coved in mud etc etc if is best to bite the bullet and go for a new one.

You hang on to stuff for years and you then decide to get rid of it.
So what happens then, bingo, you got it in one, the moment to got rid, you soon have urgent need of it.

I had a small (hmm not that small) graveyard of PC bits in a bedroom cupboard. I work as an IT technician so I tend to "accumulate" bits and bobs to do with computers.
Amongst this I had a really old but fully working P133 with a huge 16mb of memory (sarcasm inserted here..lol)
We decided to redecorate the bedroom so the pile of old tosh had to go.. reluctantly I binned the lot. :-[

3 days later a good mate of mine had a pet project and was building a Linux gateway for his home network, he asked me if I had any old PCs lying around, anything from a 486 to a P133 would do... doh!

I keep everything now..... ;D

they do when they are with me. the law is very clear, that's its the driver responsiblity to make sure that the passengers are belted up. just like a lorry driver is responsible for his load being secure
but i only carry my son and his school friends and they all belt up without being told to. and before anyone trys to suggest that its because of my driving. its because of the way their mother's drive.
those that have large four b fours.
still i better keep quite, i got a feeling this might start another long thread.

It is as long as they are over 14 years of age....

Seat belt law (http://www.lawontheweb.co.uk/seatbelts.htm)

Plus I just looked about and found this in relation to the belts and the MOT test..

Seat belts and MOT (http://www.motester.co.uk/cog.html)

that post of mine on drivers responsiblity to make sure that passengers belt up, was of cause not correct.
I had it in my mine my own circumstances and not the overall picture as it is.
I only carry children, no adults, so had that in my mind when I was writing it.
But indeed it is a 14 year old and older that is responsible for themselves.
under that age the drivers, which is what I had in mind at the time.
(one of my pet saying is:- its better to be throught to be a fool, than open ones mouth and prove it beyond any doubt),
Should have took my own advice.
But i understand its up to 18 years in USA.
I feel another thread come on.

I had this arguement with my partner who is scottish ::)
Anyways in scotland I learned in there driving test the correct answere is the child or children is at fault. over the age of 13. In the uk its the drivers fault regardless who or what there age is. Even if they are adults. I only found out by acquireing both tests on cd. To settle the arguement with my partner and her scottish parents and me. If you answere the oppositt answere to the oppositt law. You fail the question. <crazy> :o.
Strangely enough I got this question on my car and C class truck test.

waiting for new seat belt from FordParts.
So decided to undo U/S NSR on my Estate,
Dead easy after folding down the rear seat backrest.
Question please, does the seat,  (that is the bit you sit on fold forwards as well. If so how?
I feel sure I seen photos of a level floor all the way across on Ebay photos

Stick your hand down between the seat back and the base... grab hard and pull it up. It hinges at the front, you can then put the seat back down into the depression left by the base and viola .. you have a van (apart from the immovable parcel shelf that is)

The seat backs have nice little depressions that you fit the seat belt locks into for when you want to reverse the procedure... saves losing them under the seat.

thanks to vulcan. That's great, I understand now. I don't think that is mentioned how to do that in the owners handbook.
I got to say that I not been to look in the handbook, so I mignt be wrong, but i can't recall this item being in it.
But thanks again, something else I learn't.
