You can see if the compressor is actually turning by lifting the bonnet and looking its on the right hand side of the engine looking in....What car is it on and is it just A/C or full climate control?

If the compressor is working the pipes as shown in this section of the Site
http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acindex.htm
its ALL in there somewhere the inof that you might require.

Gibbo, It sounds like you need to do a full reset procedure, on your Climate control..... Its all on the web pages mentioned .... http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/ccreset.htm that should sort it out..

make a note of any fault codes that you might come across .. if in fact there are any.. Its all explained on there...

Good luck.

OK Just had a look at mine - the belt is turning the pully but when you switch on the AC the clutch mech. seems to be seizing (No2 on this (http://www.anyboard.net/autos/cars/scorpio/posts/355.html) picture)

It spins for a couple of seconds and then stops!

A Reset show error 57 - so tested the HBC - seems OK but the voltage drop was one or two volts instead of the 5 stated in the instructions!

Gibbio - maybe you could check your compressor and see if the plate is spinning too!?

when you say seizing ... does it engage and start cooling then discomnect after a few moments? If so I would say its working ok do the pipes going to the bulk head (R?H side ) get COLD and the other one returning HOT  the system needs to be run for several minutes every  week even through the winter....

No - as I said, it spins (ok engages ;) ) for a couple of seconds then stops! then nothing but warm air!

I know its not working correctly - I's not that daft :D
an it gets a run every week - knew that as well!

Anyone stripped the clutch mechanism?

Cheers

Daven

Read this page as it tells you how to check every thing http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/airconelectrical.htm  and the checks you can make .... Sound like an electrical fault rather than the clutch is at fault....

have a look here ALL the codes are described and an explanation but '57' is in fact a Faulty HBC
