Title: Adding Aircon to my 2.0 Ghia
Post by MarkyMark on Mar 26th, 2005, 3:51pm
Basically, I just want to know is this possible :) After all my wants of selling my car, buying a cosworth, etc. etc. I have decided to GAS my existing scorpio and maybe add aircon to its specs depending on if it can be done and how much it would cost.

So, my question is to you guys n gals, can I add aircon to my car despite it not having it, and if so, how much and where from :D

Cheers in advance btw.

Others may not agree but IMHO NOT worth the time, trouble and expense to add it to a car of that age etc etc...
Totally impracticable.....

Buy another car much cheaper option.

Just out of curiosity, supposing I was ot go for a higher model many MPG would I expect to get from a LPG'd 2.9 Cosworth. I know that the actual MPG would be less but what i'm really asking is how many miles would £50 get me :)

25 -30 ish is a good taget for the cossie. Double that figure for LGP as gas is virtually half price....

These figures are dependant on the usage of course.
Nick's quite right with the figure he gives, but that will be on a run of some kind, with a bit of motorway driving. I've just done a trip with motorway and town driving mixed together and returned 26.3mpg.
If you're just around town with loads of stop/start driving expect something like 18-21mpg

Oh, and I also would think that the work involved adding air-con to a Scorpio would be too much. Not worth messing about with. Not impossible though.

Quite right Paul about a combined run. I should of stated that. I used to do mainly town runs  with the odd bit of motorway. Add my lead foot  going for the red line  :o alot and u will end up with a figure as low as 15mpg.  I did get 32 once on the motorway but i was only doing 65mph :'( :'( :'(.....

Cheers Nick

32 mpg, you should be ashamed. Did you have a Miss Daisy in the back or something!!  I have not seen over 19mpg since i've been using the cossie again.

hmmm, well may have solved the problem all together :) However, I will be requiring a downgrade to a rover 600 DT :( Not as many toys admitidly, but will be much more affordable, with cheaper insurance and no drops in acceleration only on top end :) And i've only done 130 on the clock once and that was about a year ago @ 3 in the morning on the M69 :D
