Title: Replacing PAS Hoses Post by VladSoare on Apr 26th, 2005, 7:29am Hi, guys. The hoses that go to and from the power steering fluid reservoir are leaking at the upper end, near the reservoir. 1. Is there something special about these hoses, I mean do I have to buy them from a Ford dealer, or would any reinforced hydraulic hose of the same diameter do? 2. How can I replace them? The moment I undo one clip and release the end of one hose, the oil from the reservoir will spill all over the place. If I remove the oil from the reservoir first, air could enter the PAS oil circuit, which I believe is bad. Did anyone replace these hoses? I could use some hints. Thank you. |

Title: Re: Replacing PAS Hoses Post by craig on Apr 26th, 2005, 7:44am if the car is pre 1997,there was indeed a slight fault with that hose, and a TSB was released about it,i had mine replaced 2 weeks ago,the hose was £14.33 and the clamps were 55p each,(dont know how long it took because the garage that serviced the car for me,did the hose at the same time).......... what year and model do you have ?,because the hose is different for the 2 models (24v and the 2.3) HTH |

Wouldn't say it was bad, but you will have to bleed the system - place the front tyres on grass or old newspaper (so they don't scuff), take the cap off the reservoir and with the engine running turn the steering wheel from lock to lock about 10 times - this should bleed the system! Dave |

Title: Re: Replacing PAS Hoses Post by VladSoare on May 16th, 2005, 9:18am The two hoses, 7-257-146 and 1-027-373, are a little over 100 euros (together) at Ford. I find them extremely expensive, since a metre of regular oil hose (reinforced) of the same diameter is something around 10 euros at a non-Ford parts store. That's why I asked if there was anything special about the Ford hoses. Are they really so much better than standard hoses, or is the price difference only due to the Motorcraft name printed on them? Thanks. |
