Hello.

After reading that the chain guides are made of plastic and can break at any moment, with or without any start-up rattle, I got really scared. I want to replace the entire timing gear.

If I got it right, I'll need to order the following parts:

- 2 x timing chain (FINIS 1-049-824)
- 2 x upper chain guide (FINIS 7-334-661)
- 2 x lower chain guide (FINIS 1-008-399)
- LH tensioner blade (FINIS 1-008-387)
- RH tensioner blade (FINIS 1-008-390)
- LH tensioner (FINIS 7-334-668 )
- RH tensioner (FINIS 1-049-826)
- 2 x tensioner gasket (FINIS 7-334-674)

My questions are:

1. Is the above list correct? Is there something else that must be ordered?

2. Can I do the entire operation myself? I have a pair of ramps as well as a 2.5 ton jack and two axle stands. Is it the kind of operation that can be carried out in front of the house, lying down underneath the car? Or is it rather a job for a well equipped garage?
It's not about the money, but I have more confidence in myself than in a garage, not to mention the satisfaction... :)

I would also prepare to change " o" rings on the water manifolds under the " V " and definitely the associated hoses .. ie: through the Cylinder heads and down to the stat .. is your loom ok to stand all the disturbing ? .. otherwise prepare also for some rewiring .. and take note of the injector plug wiring sequence etc .. cheers ....STN

deffinatly not a job for the faint hearted, follow the job in the download and be prepared to burn the midnight oil.

I don't know about the loom. I hope it's OK. :)
It doesn't matter if it's going to take several days, because I can drive my wife's car in the meantime (which is exactly what I'm doing now, being too afraid to drive the Scorpio :().

I only want to know if it's feasible and if there's anything tricky about it, something I must pay special attention to.

I wont say its an easy job, just take your time, renew all seals on injectors & water connections at the same time, dont forget to check the loom, its easier to repair when there is nothing in the way, dont split too many knuckles.

make sure you lock the engine, i made the tool required to do it from flat bar. i simply formed a tooth, bolted it to the bar drilled one hole to correspond with the top starter motor bolt did the same for the bottom one but then hacksawed through one side of the hole to form a slot. i then bolted the tool through the top hole and swung it across to the bottom bolt. when the the tooth locks the flywheel tighten the bottom bolt. i also managed to make an engine brace from an old refectory table! but thats another story.
