Title: Re: Red Master Key Post by geraghtyg on May 25th, 2005, 1:02pm Of course I would have to be different. I have an April 98 manufactured car and I have the red master key. I must be one of the 1% |

Title: Re: Red Master Key Post by Cosray - The Hague - Holland on Aug 4th, 2005, 9:56pm Hi, my brandnew July '98 Scorpio Cosworth (last car of just 50 for Holland at the time) came with just three identical black keys with the small red Pats inserts. I just had a new completely RED masterkey remade by the local dealer for my '95 Cosworth. It was made in addition to its 2 existing slim black with RED insert keys that I had off the previous owner. Half an hour local job, cost € 50 and worth it. HTH, Ray |

Title: Re: Red Master Key Post by proberjohn on Aug 7th, 2005, 9:15pm My April '98 has PATS II which does not have a master key. I only had one chipped key so got a couple more done and should now be able to do my own (in theory anyway). John B. |

Title: Re: Red Master Key Post by Partsman on Aug 19th, 2005, 3:40pm Where do I start? Up to 98 1/4 model year a three key system was used - 1 (red) master key and at least one other key for normal use. After that a two key system was used. This needs at least 3 keys as you need 2 to programme any new ones. If you only have 2 and loose one its off to your local Ford dealer to have the system reprogrammed with WDS. I think the 98 1/4 model came out 11/97 when Scorps were facelifted - better front bumper, less chrome etc. The 2 & 3 key system relates to what FMC supplied when the vehicle was new, not the amount of keys you should really have to avoid costly reprogramming. In the early 3 key system the master key does not have to be red - all the chips are the same. Its just an easy way of telling which one is the master one when you really need it As long as yours is a 98 build facelift model you should be OK but it would be worth getting a third key cut and programming it while you've still got 2 keys. |

Title: Re: Red Master Key Post by Partsman on Aug 19th, 2005, 5:13pm Update to earlier posting. Although the 3 key system will work with 1 or 2 keys the system has to have at least 3 keys programmed into it at sometime in the past. You don't have to have them all though. |
