Title: Global closing/opening...or not?
Post by waynem325 on Jun 5th, 2005, 4:14pm
Hi guys,

As some of you may know I am currently waiting to collect the Scorpio I bought from a garage last Wednesday. (All been well it should be ready on Tuesday??)

Its a '95 N reg 2.9 24v Ultima. I thought global windows/sunroof were standard throughout the Ultima range???
Now looking at the equipment specs on the main Ford Scorpio website pages it says that they were standard equipment on the Ghia (and obviously the Ultima) after Jan '95. As I seem to remember the car I am buying only had "one touch down" on the drivers window, and not up, nor any of the other windows or even the sunroof when I test drove it.
At the time it didn't bother me as I had an '01 Mondeo Ghia X a few months ago and that had global everything. At the time of buying they didn't work (and got a few quid knocked off) but after visiting the Mondeo owners website I discovered they could be reset-which I did and all was hunky-dory!!!

With that in mind I figured the Scorpio would be no different...ie-a simple reset and everything back to global opening/closing etc.

Is this true? Am I expecting a little too much and will I have to settle on no global windows/sunroof at all???

If so is there an easy mod I can do to get them global.

If you understood all that then any info would be greatly received.

Wayne

Hi Wayne your car is doing exactly what is designed for and no more, if you require a full global closing system then lots of us have fitted a Mod, these can be obtained from a chap called Steve Colister who actually bulids them and supplies instructions on a cd I think the cost is about £60 I have forgotten Steves address now but if you contact Craig I am sure he will be able supply info. anyway god luck.

Have you tried to global CLOSE with the key?. If you turn the key forward to lock and then hold it the windows and sunroof should all close. In fact they move one after the other so as not to overload the electrics. Certainly does on my N Reg Ultima. HTH Simmo

global closing should work with the key on the majority of models, only the very early ones (danny-r for exampe) did not have it fitted as standard, and yes, there is a mod availiable to make the global closing/opening and lock-on-go work via the remote (lock and go means that when you reach a preset speed, roughly 15 MPH,all the doors automatically lock),top mod,but if you get one,in an ideal world solder the joints, scotch locks are good in the short term in my opinion

Thanks for the rapid replies,

I didn't try it with the key at the time. I had far too much excitement....errr, concentration   ;), on the test drive I didn't pay that much attention to the windows.

So basically (let me see if I've got this right???)

The drivers window is the only one which has the one touch down and not up via the inside switches.
Upon locking the car with the key all open windows/sunroof should close (with the key left in the locked position) in the order: front, rear then sunroof. And again will globally open when unlocked.
Is that the correct "standard" operation of what the manufacturer describes as "global opening/closing"?

If thats right then it should do me for the time bieng........but could someone tell me more about the mod for the windows please. What is needed and what work is involved. Does the £60 quoted above include everything that is needed and how long does it take  :)

Many thanks,
Wayne  ;D

The one touch up need to be re set if its had a new battery and to do that hold the up button for about 5 secs after its closed...

Maybe this can be of help: my July 12, 1995 Cosworth built for the German Cologne Police has one-touch down on all windows.
Upwards you need to consciously hold the button, dictated by then German safety laws.
Global opening/closing: hold the key in the driver doorlock turned one way, in the passeneger doorlock the other way.
Closing and double-locking: turn key in doorlock one shortly way, then hold in teh other direction on either front door.

Sidelights will blink twice (not so in my case using the remote!)
