Title: Advice - Get the AC Mod!! Post by Highlander on Jul 7th, 2005, 12:13am Just fitted it the other week and it really does the business!! First thing I noticed was blower actually switching off when the temp was set at Lo (15 I think) which i'd never seen before on a hot day. It has always been able to keep things cool but was blowing on full power constantly to achieve this, now its almost effortless. We had a scorcher the other day, one of those days you couldnt put your hand on the car it was that hot, I switched it on Lo and after about 10 mins had the kids complaing they were cold and wanting the heater on ;) Big thanks to all those involved in the research and design and building of the AC Mod and a big recommendation to all Scorpio owners to GET ONE!!! :) |

Post by craig on Jul 10th, 2005, 8:56am mike.... fitting is quite straight forward,but where you put it does have a bearing on "difficulty",if you plan to use the dual bezel fitting,the shaft of the mod has to get shortened and tapered to fit into the housing,not a hard job,just a little tedious,as for under the bonnet,have a read of THIS HERE (http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/acmod.htm) |

Nothing more complicated than a spanner or a screwdriver and a couple of electrical connectors. Most of the time is just removing the wipers etc to gain access to where you need to join the wires. Just a point there, I had to remove the little box screwed onto the evaporator as my wires were routed behind this so not allowing me enough slack to get the connectors on. once I got them out it was just the same as in the directions though. I printed off the page showing how its done (Criags link in the post above) just to have it with me, very clear and precise it is too :) |

Post by geraghtyg on Jul 11th, 2005, 12:28pm Hi, I'm in the middle of fitting my mod seeing as it's a scorcher of a day here in Dublin (hottest day of the year) and I have a day off. Problem is I'.m having a lot of trouble getting the gromit at the bulkhead out. I've been yanking and twisting but it just doesn't seem to want to come out. Anyone know how hard I can pull before I break something? Want to get this done today after taking everything apart. Not giving up another day of sun tomorrow to try again. Graham |

Post by geraghtyg on Jul 12th, 2005, 11:09pm Mod has been fitted - one question: I have the made up unit that goes in the cubby hole - There are 11 settings (I think) but which is the factory setting and which is max cooling ability? In other words, if turned all the way say, clockwise, is this factory preset or full cooling? |

Had it turned all the way clockwise yesterday for about 45 mins when I noticed a distinct lack of airflow. As it was 27C outside, I notices pretty quickly. Anyway, the whole system must have frozen up. But boy, does the car get seriously cold now and with less use of the fans too. A great mod indeed. Not technically minded at all myself but that was piece of p*ss to fit. Next to do is the global opening/closing mod. |

Post by Boblavens on Jul 20th, 2005, 5:49pm It doesn't have to be a "click" type, it's just that it's easier to select the settings when Hurtling down the motorway at speed. 470K should be interesting as you will get an even lower temperature on Full setting. You could hang meat in the back of the car or mybe wear a Parka in the height of summer. No seriously yes it would work and it would give an even lower temp at full setting. Bob |

Post by craig on Jul 21st, 2005, 7:01am i would be a little cautious about dropping the temperature any lower........ the work and testing that went into the original mod was well worth it in the end i think,the original (and still availiable) mod is just about right,and if you try to make the air even cooler and leave the system running like that,believe me,every thing will eventually freeze up.... |
