Title: Auto Gearbox Adjustment
Post by woody1966 on Jul 19th, 2005, 3:54pm
Does anybody know what the torque setting is on the special tool for adjusting the brake bands on an auto gearbox fitted to a 2.3 Ultima estate. I've just put a replacement gearbox on my car and it's got a bit of hesitation when going between 2nd & 3rd. Cheers.

I have found from different places following torque, 13Nm (10 foot pounds). PS if you use transmission code 4R44E instead of A4LDE you will find out more information from internet (tool is available e.g. from http://www.etoolcart.com/browseproducts/Index14.html)

" replacement " .. or reconditioned ?  .. bands shouldn't be adjusted other than factory set really .. but don't worry too much about torque .. screw the adjuster in until you feel contact and then back off quarter of a turn ..then tighten locknut ...
that may not be your problem though but hth .... STN
