Title: Quick definition Post by atressler on Aug 24th, 2005, 1:23pm :PMan, don't i feel dumb :P Well, my car failed MOT. They said that the o/s and n/s front flexi brake hoses split and are showing braids. Well, I have 2 questions. 1.) what does o/s and n/s mean? 2.) Where are these hoses located? |

Title: Re: Quick definition Post by atressler on Aug 24th, 2005, 1:33pm Does anyone know if this is an easy fix? I'm not much of a mechanic... yet that is my job (but not on cars [airplane equipment]), and im kinda gettin mad at this car, but i love it, and i just want all the problems to go away! |

Title: Re: Quick definition Post by martin_rowe on Aug 24th, 2005, 2:55pm real easy job, but then thats what I do, just like a hydraulic hose, you will need to bleed the brakes after. undo pipe from hose at body end, remove clip holding hose to bkt, then unscrew from caliper, if you do it quick you wont lose much fluid. same both sides, you may need help to bleed system, |

Title: Re: Quick definition Post by mr._floppy on Aug 25th, 2005, 11:05am I tis said that if you unscrew the cap of the brake master cylinder put a piece of polythene over the top then screw the cap back on this will reduce the amount of brake fluid lost during operations like this, summat to do with vacuum. Anytime I've tried it , it didn't work! :-/ |

Title: Re: Quick definition Post by admin on Aug 26th, 2005, 6:17am Bottom line is don't do it yourself. Bleeding brakes is a bit of an art and if you mess it up you have a 2 tonne, 140 mph projectile with no brakes :) The brake pipes are fairly cheap and you can even get braided stainless steel ones that look nice. Usually about an hours work for a technician to change them for you. Steve |
