Title: 2.3 resonators Post by craig on Oct 3rd, 2005, 3:46pm ever since i have had my car it has always suffered with what can only be discribed as an annoying "whistling",this usually happened whilst stuck in traffic or when restarting the car whilst still warm, have only really managed to diagnose the problem quite recently as a dodgy resonator, now even though i have examined my old 1 close up,i can only see 1 very, very tiny hole in it,now the replacement 1 i got from russ and paul has now seemed to cure the problem,so if any other 2.3 owner suffers with the same i can 99% be sure that the resonator may have become damaged in some way,and if the same symtoms are experienced as the ones above, might need replacing... |

Title: Re: 2.3 resonators Post by paulscorp on Oct 5th, 2005, 5:04pm hi craig, I recently clean my MAF and upon refitting of said sensor and tightening the hoses back up, i restarted the enginge to find i had the noise you describe. It last but only a few minutes. Not sure what caused it, although the air that passes through is metered and maybe as with your little hole in resonator, it was trying to cope with too much air. Not entirely sure was purpose the resonator serves really, but to annoy us with the noise lol regards 'Paul |

Title: Re: 2.3 resonators Post by Octavian_P on Oct 6th, 2005, 3:39pm In theory the resonator makes small air turbulaces that mix better with fuel and give more performance, and better fuel effiency ......well that is in theory ..... ;) |

They only need replacing if they become damaged, because it's just a plastic box with some channels that makes air turbulences. As for maintenance it could be whased but only if the car didn't have an air filter (example a scarpyard scorp or something like that) |
