Title: Radiator replacement - broken bolt! Post by OHC on Oct 10th, 2005, 11:50am Hello! Replacing the radiator on my trusty-rusty 2.0 16v I broke both bolts supporting it from beneath. After removing the remnants with a drill I discovered that one of the nuts welded inside the spar had gone. So I had to take a long drill and drilled through the spar. Its walls are only 3 mm thick so you can easily drill a 8 mm hole. Then I took 140 mm long bolt and fixed the rad on its place wrenching the bolt from underneath and holding the nut from beneath. It's not so easy but I did it with a little help of my Dad! Be careful with the wiring going to the headlamp - it's worth fixing it with cable-ties. If you have no such a long bolt, you can take a stud wrench two nuts then tighten them against each other - so you'll have something like a bolt! Best regards, OHC |
