On my 2.3, noticed she began to "hunt" (rpm wise) for the first minute or so when idling from cold.
Then noticed no "hiss" when opening the fuel cap.

Up in the air she went and found the rubber hose leading to the EVAP tank from the engine dump valve was worn clean through where it had been fouling the half shaft!

Put a new piece of hose in and messed about with a support under the suspension and found that when the suspension gets near to bottoming out on the spring, the half shaft quite easily touches that particular piece of hose.
The check is to examine the hose for fouling. The fix is to fasten it up with a cable tie to stop it doing it again.
