Title: Re: oil changes Post by mr._floppy on Oct 15th, 2005, 7:04pm An oil and filter change every 6000 mls. sounds right to me. I don't think an overpriced Ford Oil Filter is necessary though, a Halfords or similar version is quite sufficient. |

Title: Re: oil changes Post by craig on Oct 15th, 2005, 7:10pm i stated a genuine ford one because they have the one way valve in them which holds oil for the all crucial start up........................ dont know if other ones do :-/ |

Title: Re: oil changes Post by wudz on Oct 15th, 2005, 8:21pm Hi. I found it easier to go to National they changed mine using 10- 40.s and the correct filter. I supplied a new oil plug just in case all the dirty work done for £25.00. It would normally be £20.00 but the oil had to be fully ford complient as stated with an inhouse memo.. In fact it is now due for a change again after 7000. 2ltr 16v Estate 96... Cheers John |

Title: Re: oil changes Post by Eric_R on Nov 1st, 2005, 12:20am Ming, If you look at the bottom of each of the Servicing/Repairs http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/servicingguide.htm section you'll find PDF copies of the complete Ford Workshop Manual for each section, so you can download any part you need. Don't think of printing it all out, though - just one engine option is a stack of pages 12" high :o There won't be a Haynes manual for the Scorpio - not enough cars were made to be viable. |

Yep, I agree - to a point. Halfords stuff is okay, Mintex make Halfords brake pads, for example, but I wouldn't be happy with the cheapo stuff you can get in the smaller motor factors. I helped an owner a few years ago whose oil pressure light came on after an oil change - it turned out that the really cheap oil filter he had fitted was not letting enough oil through ::) The problem with OEM parts is that really you don't know the quality and specification they're made to, whereas if you buy a part from Ford they are made to exactly the spec of the original part - or better if the spec has been improved since then, as the oil filters have. Brake disks are a case in point. I have always bought Ford disks with absolutely no problems, even after emergency braking - whereas several owners here on the Forum have had problems with OEM disks warping. Still, it's personal preference, really. |

Title: Re: oil changes Post by OHC on Nov 1st, 2005, 10:51am Hello! I used to buy genuine FORD oil filters, but had problems in cold winter. The oil lamp illuminated in the morning while warming up at idle. It turned off after slight revving and didn't go off for the whole day. I replaced the filter with a decent FRAM one - no probs any more! I gave up using Ford oil filters. They may be manufactured somewhere in Turkey! ;) Best regs, OHC |
