Title: 2.9 12 valve spark plugs
Post by Allen on Oct 16th, 2005, 1:18am
Last week i purchased and fitted a new set of NGK plugs for my 2.9 12 valve from Halfords. Prior to fitting the plugs i had travelled down south in the car with no problem at all, today is the first decent run since then other than my daily 10 mile sedately commute and i have now noticed a good degree of hesitation in acceleration whilst trying to accelerate hard in top at around the 75 / 80 mph mark.
Around town its fine, sets of as good and hard as you can expect for the 12 valve but once cruising, it is struggling to accelerate hard from the mentioned speeds and requires you to ease off on the throttle and try again more sedately. Doing this will allow the car to accelerate smoothly only more slowly.
I was wondering if these symptons may be attributed to something concerning the new plugs or whether the fault may be more serious.
Does anyone know the correct sparkplug gap for the 12 valve? If my memory is correct, i was unsure at the time and closed the gap down to approx 1.1mm.
Any advise greatly appreciated.

Thanks for that, I'll check and reset the gap and take it from there.
