I've read through the pages on the ABS fault finding page and I wonder if anyone here can clear things up for me.

I had the problem with the ABS and TCN lights turning on after exceeding about 11mph. I've cleaned the rear sensors (and boy were they dirty!), but nothing changed. So, I'm wondering about two things:

1) Can front ABS sensors also cause the TCN lights to come on?

2) At the bottom of the ABS Fault Finding page it says: "In view of this the above instructions need to be amended, only so far as ignoring the instructions to check the ABS light after each operation - it appears that with the Teves Mk 20 there is no point. Carry out the checks and repair any problems that are found and then make an appointment with a garage equipped with diagnostics and get them to reset the module, or use the PWM/ISO combi lead and reset the module yourself."
Does this mean that the lights won't turn themselves off, even though the problem has been fixed, if I don't reset the module? If so, do I need the computer program to do this, or can this be done manually somehow?

what year/model are we talking about?

i would think the front would play a part as well. :-/

i have the mk20 abs. i will say that when i had my car on a rolling road, i had the abs light on. it cleared itself after a few miles back on the road.

It's a -95 2.0 16v.

On my car it all started with the TC acting up and registering "wheelspin" when I was hardly moving. A week or two later both lights turned on when I got above ~22km/h (~11mph) and they don't turn off until I shut down the car :(

hi there

did the throttle pedal push back at you? ie cut the power while applying the brakes? might be an issue with the control motor/module :-/

That never happened when applying brakes, but did happen when applying pressure to the accelerator pedal. On "clean" asphalt it would act as if the wheels were spinning and prohibit me from pressing down the accelerator pedal, just as it would had the wheels been spinning. This happened a few times and then the TC "disengaged" every time I started the car, and subsequently the ABS light came on an the ABS quit working.

I'm just hoping I don't have to do this at a garage, as I've just shelled out ~£3000 (30000NOK) for repairs on it :(

Maybe the toothed ring that the sensors "read" is dirty? I guess that could cause the lights to come on. I had this a few months back but just had to clean the sensors to sort it. I would check the toothed rings at the back next :)

I took a look at them as I cleaned the sensors, but they didn't look dirty. They looked a bit corroded however, but I'm guessing that doesn't matter much.
Any ideas on how to clean them if that's the case?

Eh, youve got the same type tyres front and back.? Same air pressure.? :-[ :P ;D

Dave: What model do you have? And did the lights "reset" themselves immediately afterwards, or did you have to do something to "reset" them?

Its a 1996 24v Ultima. When I cleaned the sensors the light went out as normal after the self test and did not come back on during any journey, no further resetting needed if it is just dirty sensors :)
