Title: Door mirror heaters
Post by mr._floppy on Nov 13th, 2005, 12:12pm
Does    anyone  know  how to remove the heated door  mirror   ( just the mirror )  as I'm sure the element is dud.

BTW,  On my Scorp it seems to be just the drivers door mirror that has the heated  mirror, was that  the usual spec?  ( late '96  (P) 2lt. 16V Ultima)

Yes , It is just a push fit into the holder. needs prising out very carefully and then the two wires to the heater element unplugging

I am in the process of doing a new page for the site on this very problem which will be available soon.

hi there

both mirrors should be heated be the rear windscreen switch. the front screen switch powers the heated washer jets.

The mirror heaters are activated by the rear screen switch. I managed to get the mirror off,  power is getting to the element  when the  engine is running , but  now  I am unsure if the  element  is dud as when  tested  on  my multimeter,  with  both terminals connected,  there is a full scale deflection  on the "  X 1K " resistance setting  ( which proves  there is no break in the element )  but  no needle  movement on the    " X1 "  resistance  setting.

   Any  electricians out there?

If your voltmeter isgiving full deflection, I assume you mean it is reading 0 ohms. This means a dead short. There ought to be some resistance there.
