Title: Hydraulic Tappets noise !
Post by Scorpio_Sam on Dec 11th, 2005, 10:36pm
Can anyone give me an idea of what sort of job it is to change/service the hydraulic tappets on my 2.9 12v, an idea of cost would be great too, is it a day or weekend jobby, cheers.

The 12v has Hydraulic tappets and as such should not need any adjustment. A good flush with flushing oil and then refill with good quality oil should quieten the tappets but they are replaceable if you need to ... Well the followers are under the push rodds which are removeable after the heads are off see here http://www.fordscorpio.co.uk/manual/engines/12v/V612VCylHeads.pdf

Cheers Snoopy, it looks pretty ugly and expensive, any idea on what sort of life is left in a fairly noisy follower, its been pretty much the same for 2 years now and Its finally getting on my nerves, should I flush and see what happens or leave well alone, Im running on fully sinthetic oil at the moment.

I would flush and leave well alone really it is possible to adjust the actual tappets on the head but with the follwers being hydraulic they should never need doing.

Worth having a look under the rocker covers though. Can't do any harm there and have a look...
