Title: Bottom arms
Post by dannynic on Dec 18th, 2005, 9:40pm
Hi all, Just a note to say beware of certain large factor tyre dealers;

My steering wheel was off centre so I went to get my tracking sorted, this particular large tyre factor said they sorted it when I collected, however when driving it realised it was still not right so took it back to them, they said the tracking was spot on and it was the bottom arm bushes that were broken.( only just passed an mot though).Took the car to my local garage to get the arms changed and they said there was nothing wrong with the bottom arms. The local garge recommended to go to Bathwick tyres for a tracking check. Bathwick set the car up properly and its perfect now.

Just a warning don't belive what some people say!

I don't know if I can say the tyre place at fault, but its a national concern.

Hope this may help some. ;)

Yep,   proper  wheel alignment is  tricky to do, and is really beyond  the scope of  most  high street garages and  ( unnamed ) big  business   tyre suppliers.  Only specialist  outfits with laser  aligning equipment  can do the job properly.

You are exactly right, it was a young spotty lad! Bathwick Tyres used a laser to set it up, posh bit of kit. ;)

I had an experiance with the "boys you can`t get better than".
My Capri, i had some new tyres fitted at this national tyre fitter and the spotty scrote that was "going" to jack my car up with a trolly jack, didn`t.
I stopped him just as he started to lift it on the sill.
I told him to stop what he was doing and asked the manager to show the lad where to jack a car up.
On the manufacturer`s jack points.
The sill was scratched and they paid for it to be touched up.
Needless to say i don`t use this company anymore.

Well done you,     I too   am   very   watchful  where they   jack it up ,   you'd think they'd never been told about what are  load bearing  areas and what ain't!

Those   4 point    hoists   ( rather than the "Drive on"    type )   are  to be watched  as well ,   I don't want  or need    crumpled   sills  ???

Had a bad experience with one of the nationals ...had oil change done ...they cross threaded the sump plug .they did in the end put a new sump on but the hassle was not appreciated .Good job i got back to collect the car before it came of the lift ..I spotted the thread tape on the sump plug!!!
